After numerous emails and communications since 08 09, On May 2010 I decided to send a group of my work on consignment to the Zaruba & ZarubaGallery owned and operated by Andrew and Douglas Zaruba.

sent 20 high end pieces of jewelry at 32K in retail value; and waited for the galleryto contact me back as shipmentreceived . No word came. waited a week and sent an email ,no reply. telephoned and could not speak to the owner but to an employee who said they had received the work and everything looked great , delivery (UPS2day)was confirmed/signed by Zaruba .

June and July passed I had sent messages to find out how the work was doing in their store. no response. telephoned a few times left msgs. and in Augustspoke with Douglas Zaruba, and asked him to just Send My work back.He assured me that everything was fine and will relay the message to Andrew the son.

Mid September still no response. a few more phone calls to Andrew's personal cell number in september and he finally told Us that 2 pieces had sold ,and he will return the rest of the work back. at which time we asked him to also include payment of the pieces in the same shipment, he refused to do so and said he would send the payment a few days later.

That was the first week of October 2010. I sent emails, left telephone messages, wrote him letters of collections, hired a lawyer who did the same , he still has not paid the $990.00 owed to me on the 2 pieces ,a large Pendant , and a ring.I placed a complaint with the Better BusinessBureau of Baltimore , and they let me know that the Gallery owner has refused to comply and rectify the unpaid bill.

At this point the BBB advice ;the only thing left for me to do is start civil court proceedings, till I found out about Ripoff report.

Zaruba and Zaruba has owed me this money sinceAugust 2010, in cases like this normally there would be 2% interest on the money owed, which is $19.80 per month,at least for 7 months,=$138.60 on top of the $990.00I am willing to let go the interest; if they pay with in the next 10 days from this report date 26 January 2011.

Jewelry designer posts pieces online
A designer of unique jewelry opened an e-commerce site focusing on gift pieces.

Stacey Krantz, a 1988 graduate of Frederick High School, has been designing original custom jewelry pieces for seven years.

These pieces, which are never duplicated, are made of silver and 18-karat gold and inlaid with gemstones and pearls. The jewelry is subtle, designed in a fashion to not overpower the wearer.

Krantz designs all the jewelry at her 33 N. Market St. studio. She sells the pieces next door at Zaruba & Zaruba, a jewelry gallery owned by Doug Zaruba and son, Andrew.

The Official paper work at the state of Maryland shows you Douglas Zaruba as being

principle owner of the Zaruab and Zaruba Gallery. it shows Andrew

Zaruba owner in March of 2011. The info you have on your own Doug

Zaruba LInkedIN Pages showing you as President of Zaruba and Zaruba

    LLC. also.

No one said you are Andrew Zaruba. but you are if nothing part/full

owner in the Zaruba and Zaruba Gallery, thus making you at the least

responsible for your partners delinquent actions. and believe me Doug

if it was a few hundred dollars i would have let this go and not

dealt with this extreme headache since June of 2010, but as the

number of artists he has screwed over grown so has the monetary

amount which easily exceeds the 12K US$.

as to you not keeping in touch with your son, I had heard from one of

the artists in touch with you that Andrew was living at your house in

Maryland the begining of 2011? maybe this was not correct, but if so

then you were in contact with him till recently? yes the whole

country is out of balance, and the economy is doing badly, many

people, jewelers and artist are having a hard time, people like

Andrew are just making it ever so more difficult for the rest of us who

go by the book and keep it honest. in the field 99% of our business

is built on TRUST. where do you think the Zaruba name stands on that

issue ? I googled Andrew and found him on Face book and etsy running

a business now out of upstate NY. he won't respond to the telephone.

below you say you are not responsible for the new owner's mistakes,

in July-August of 2010 one of the phone calls I made to the Zaruba and

Zaruba tele Number, (my weekly phone call) you answered I asked about

my work, you replied Andrew No longer works here and that you were

back from retirement to take care of the business, I asked if my work

was there, you replied yes it's in our volt and that you will pass on

the message to Andrew that I wanted my work and any payments post

shipped out right away. In October -November 2010 when we were able

to get through to you via my wife’s phone ; To your credit you were

able to persuade Andrew to ship my work 30K US$ back, the payment for

sold work never showed up, still has not, every week I would call, he

would never pick up. till his phone stopped working. so forgive me for

    not trusting or believing you.)

**So just by looking the info from the past seems there is paperwork "official "and people "unofficial" in the Fredrick area that show you at least to have some involvment in this Zaruba and Zaruba  Buisness. by disolving/liquidating/forclosing  the buisness and starting anew with a new name (vortex 13 )but the same address with some of the same employees doesn't change the history of the company.all this was happening in 2010 and before, I place the original report in Jan.2011. you are rebuttling in 2014?

Sadly your Son Andrew still has not owned up to me with his payment delenquincy .

#1 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Douglas Zaruba not affiliated with Zaruba and Zaruba

AUTHOR: Douglas Zaruba - ()

POSTED: Friday, July 18, 2014

I sold my interest in Zaruba and Zaruba Gallery in 2005 to my son, Andrew Zaruba, retired and moved to Panama. I returned in 2010 because I heard bad reports about this gallery. In August of 2010 I was forced to foreclose on the gallery and take possession of the premises, including most of the tools, equipment, and display fixtures. I did not receive any inventory. I negotiated a new lease with the landlord and opened a studio/showroom in the original location carrying ONLY my work. From April 2005 until September 2010, I was not a part of Zaruba and Zaruba and was not responsible for any of the decisions or financial obligations made by my son.

I did speak with several of his vendors and customers who were trying to contact him, and did try to assist them in recovering their work. I don't know how successful they were. I do not keep in contact with my son now.

I had an excellent reputation before I sold my gallery. Since I have opened again in Frederick, I have tried to assist some of the customers of Zaruba and Zaruba with warrantee service, even though it is legally not my responsibility. My company is now Vortex 13, LLC and is NOT affiliated with Andrew Zaruba or with Zaruba and Zaruba.
