I am an X manager from Best Buy South Surrey who has been hired under false so called values by one of the most evil deceptive and a hazard to the environment companies I have ever had the misfortune of working for. When I was hired I was told that the compnay values were of the highest standard and that they keep them in high regards! Yet every day at work I would be caught up in meetings where my general manager would coach me in how to lie to customers in order to sell their extended insurance! At first I thought I was in a dream but soon I realized that this is how the company makes their pure profit and that this is how my GM gets his fat bonus checks! Soon after I discovered that the companies fake values were an obvious front for what really goes on behind closed doors! My job security was used against me on very occasion if I had ever questioned their tactics. The company also has an inside grading system where the employees get to let the district managers know how things are going in the store by filling out a survey called "View point". During this time the employees get to anonymously let the upper staff know what they fel needs to be changed. On our last view point my General Manager Christian Reich decided to bribe people with $20 bills and $25 dollar gift certificates days before viewpoint in exchange for their positive votes for him!! I witnessed him on 3 occasions handing over a $20 dollar bill to younger staff members then saying "I want to say thanks for all your hard work and wanted to give you this $20 bill for your efforts here at Best Buy and can you take your view point survey?". He would then follow the staff members into the private room where the surveys would take place and even stay in the room behind them as they did their survey! On top of his dishonesty he also engaged in illegal drug and alcohol consumption with other staff who he later favortized and protected when they were caught. I guess this is what happens when you hire a kid to be a GM and he does not have the maturity to run a business. In addition to an already dishonest company who hires dishonest people who are trained liers they also have the worse environmental impact with their massive disgarding of metal, electronics, paper and plastic all being thrown into the same containers! During the opening of new Best Buy stores this company will ship out containers with thousands of metal shelves and counters etc to build the new store. When the items arrive to the location often in every case of a grand opening the company has already changed their plan for the floor layout therefore not needing a majority of the shelves and counters they have shipped. Their answer to that instead of shipping the unused material back to the warehouse, is to throw mass amounts of steel, wood, plastic, glass and paper all into one bin and send it off to the land fill! I was disgusted at the amount of waste in materials I saw while with this company. They have a giant fake "We are Green " sign on their walls as a deliberate false front to make you believe they care. If you multiply the number of Best buy and future shops stores I could only imagine the environmental impact they are having. Someone needs to investigate Best buy and Future shop for their massive wasting. They also have a label making printer which prints full size sheets of paper with 12 or 4 large label sections on it. When an employee prints only a single label, guess where the remaining blank stickers and card board labels end up? You got it in the trash next to the plastic, metal and glass! I lost my job for voicing my opinion to my superiors and they decided to let me go because I discovered their fake tactics for profit. I just want people to be aware! Say no to thier PSP/PRP ( Product service plan or Product replacement plan)

This is how product replacement realy works

AUTHOR: TruthIsScary - ()

POSTED: Saturday, July 20, 2013

The service plan rarely pay out, the amount your paying for a replacement plan, is at least 20% or more of the purchase price. The depreciation of the product will be almost 50% or more the 1st year. By time warranty is over a similar product will be 50% cheaper, then you buy the cheaper and new version of whatever electronics instead of refurbished or used they give you as replacement.

Not Insurance

AUTHOR: Crim - (United States of America)

POSTED: Monday, March 04, 2013

Just wanted to clarify. When I worked there, I was told specifically not to call it, or refer to the PRP/PSP as insurance because you need to be licensed to sell insurance. That is why they call it a replacement plan and service plan, then they insure their loses separately.

Anyone who has worked sales or register at Best Buy knows all of this is true. They are scams that occasionally pay off.

My GM of the last store I worked for was under so much pressure from his district managers, that he threatened to fire my supervisor for speaking in the supervisor meetings for speaking up against some of the plans they forced on us. I tried to come to him with an issue I saw with a new Loss Prevention policy the district managers thought up. He counted to 3 before he was going to "promote me to customer." I laughed at him and said whatever and kept my job. 3 Weeks later that policy was thrown out for the exact reasons I was trying to bring up to him...

The problem with Best Buy stores is that the Greedy bastards at Corporate want their money, and they will fire anyone who doesnt get it for them. The good managers get promoted quickly, the crap managers get stuck in the stores and play their game of favorites.

Best Buy is a crap company. But what other choice do we have? Walmart? I'd rather slit my wrists then give money to a company that is destroying the American economy by lowering average wages and putting small business out of business.

Read what it says

AUTHOR: jaw3 - (United States of America)

POSTED: Monday, March 12, 2012

If you read what you posted very clearly, it says they will replace the defective item. It never says they will replace the defective item with a NEW item. Never. They offered to do exactly what they said they would do, replace the item, and you threatened legal action to coerce them into doing what you thought they should do. The only one being unethical in that equation was you.

And, in regards to current protection services, I just had a $400 camera replaced with a brand new one of the exact same model. It took around a week, they sent it in to see if it could be repaired, and when it couldn't, I had a new camera within the day. Very pleased with the service, and will use again.

If you actually had the old PRP plan and it was still active, they have to replace it. If any employees were trying to get out of it you certainly would of had a case. Glad you stood your ground and got the replacement. Anywhere you shop you are bound to find some morons sad to say.

Oh course I have absolutely no sympathy for shoplifters.  So if the did kick the guy, I could care less.  Anyone that decides to steal deserves to be kicked and beat.

Best Buy will try to rip you off - it happened to me

AUTHOR: flips712 - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, January 12, 2012

The person posting this complaint is 100% correct and telling the honest truth about Best Buy's fraudulent warranty protection services.  I purchased an iPod Touch from Best Buy in 2008 along with a 3 year PRP (Product replacement protection) warranty.  When my iPod malfunctioned in 2010 I brought it to Best Buy along with my original receipt.  They refused to issue me a new iPod even though it was clearly stated in their warranty terms that I was eligible for one.  They said the only thing they could do was give me a refurbished iPod.  They told me they no longer offered the PRP warranty anymore, only the Black Tie Protection was offered.

I told them I purchased the PRP warranty so they were obligated to honor it.  They tried telling me I didn't have the PRP warranty and that I had the Black Tie Protection,  which only entitled me to a refurbished iPod.  I argued with 3 different managers and asked to use their store computer to pull up my warranty information, which was posted on their Best Buy website.  Once I pulled up my account information it clearly stated I purchased the PRP warranty yet they still refused to honor it.  I did some research prior that day and told the managers that I was well aware of the previous lawsuits filed against them for failing to honor their previous PRP warranty and said that I would be happy to file a lawsuit against them for damages that far exceeded the cost of issuing me a new iPod.  That's when they finally gave in and said they would honor the PRP warranty and give me a brand new iPod.

Don't let them screw you out of the warranty services you paid for as they are obligated to honor the terms of the agreement regardless if they no longer offer the PRP warranty anymore.  If they refuse to honor your warranty contact a lawyer.  Do a search online and you will see that various customers have sued them for failing to honor their warranty and have won.  I think one the cases against Best Buy settled for $250,000.  Knowledge is power so use it to your advantage!!  And by the way, the Best Buy store I was dealing with was in Fort Lauderdale, FL on Federal Highway.

Lots of waste.

AUTHOR: Misha - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, January 11, 2012

I used to work on remodels of box stores, and you have no idea the amount of waste.  When stores do "re-sets"  all the old fixtures just go in the trash.   Trust me it's not sorted, it's going straight to the dump.  I actually love these jobs, I was a trade foreman and usually friendly with the general contractor.  The workers take a ton of stuff home from these jobs.  A lot take scrap, I take furniture, lighting, fixtures.  Otherwise it just goes to the dump.  I convinced one contractor to let me set a couple roll of boxes and I'd split the profit with him, we split almost 14k over a 4 week job, and it took nothing more than labeling the dumpsters.   I've also worked on LEED jobs where there are different dumpsters for each material, and it's all weighed and credits given for lower numbers, vastly different than the big box stores.

I don't represent Best Buy anymore but I am a loyal customer.  I don't think read my response carefully enough to know that I wasn't taking their side either.

I also know from experience working in Canadian business that perhaps their might be a bit a bias here since Best Buy might me made to look like that bad American company up in the great white north.

Corporations didn't make the internet.  It was a government and educational venture so that people can express their opinions regardless of disagreement but those that lie on this site ought to know that they will get thrown under the bus.

#15 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Hmmm

AUTHOR: Tim - (USA)

POSTED: Friday, December 09, 2011

As the complaint person is aware, there are disclosure forms that are filled out by every employee.  It appears that maybe you didn't follow them and that could have led to your termination as well.  Especially if you were an exmanager for the company.  That doesn't stop you from whistleblowing but make sure you know the difference.  I don't know the Canadian legal system but here in America even though employment with Best Buy is at will that doesn't exclude them from laws that protect employess that report them to the proper agencies.  They can fire you but they will have to pay a fine and back wages to you if you win.  You also have to report it to the proper angencies.  This isn't one of them that will help your cause.

I do know there was a report that there was some age discrimination going on in the company getting rid of the older employees about the time I was working for them.  I don't know if anything ever happened about it.

As far as assulting of shoplifters in the parking lot.  Stuff like that ends up on the local news followed by an appology and a firing of those involved.  That's a lawsuit in America.  I'll check out the Vancouver Sun for that report.  If that did happen, that will be investigated internally.

I've never had a problem with PSPs.  I have used them and haven't had a problem with them.  Keep in mind that the sales of the PSPs are a factor in keeping the store staffed after the holidays.  That is typical of most service businesses even outside of Best Buy.

As far as the material issues that weren't used, how do you know the contractor didn't sell the material for scrap to someone else?  Even though it ends up in the bin, it doesn't mean it made it to the land fill.  A lot of contractors do that to make some extra cash but Best Buy would have to release it to them if they owned it.  For that matter Best Buy could have done the same thing with the scrap metal as well.

As far as the label issue is concerned.  I think your talking about a form that is used for shipping things to be serviced.  They didn't make the printer.  That is an IBM matter.  The form was designed so that if multiple labels are needed for the box, and paperwork, they are all printed on the form.  The form was also designed to reprint if mistakes happen when fed into the printer as well.  That happens all the time.

Everyone gets bonuses in the store that work there.  I'm sure you know about the shrink bonus you can get in January if you are still on the payroll.  It's a nice one if the store makes the goal.  It's designed to keep employees on thier toes to keep an eye on theft matters.

I think you really went about this matter the wrong way and I hope it doesn't prevent from getting another job because sometimes it does depending on how you complain about it.

Best Buy Ripped Me Off For $60

AUTHOR: Troy - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, October 30, 2011

I'm one of those that Best Buy employees lied to. I bought a PDA from there back in around 2003.  The employee who sold me the plan said that I could have the PDA replaced because the battery would not hold a charge for more than a year and the plan would replace the PDA free of charge.  It was a 2 year plan so about 1.5 years passed and I tried replacing it as instructed by the employee and they told me the plan doesn't cover that.  Add that one to Best Buy's list of consumers exploited.

Apparently it is illegal to print your own money but it's legal to steal it from consumers in a scam, probably if you pay off your local government agency so they don't indict you.  This is what I call an alternative to printing your own money.  According to the government's laws there's always legal ways to commit illegal and unethical activities.

On a side note, I find it interesting how there's always the typical corporate or government paid troll who scours the internet for anyone who makes valid complaints against the unethical activities of institutions that affect the lives of people and they always resort to the 3rd grade immature, name-calling mentality commuting defamation of character and slander left and right.  "Thank you whistleblowers who used to work for these public opinion defamation artists admitting to these corporate attacks on consumers they ripped off".

ALL TRUE!!

AUTHOR: Pip - (Canada)

POSTED: Thursday, June 23, 2011

I just came across this website as I was doing research on Best Buy because I was fired recently! After busting my hump for them for just under a year. I was suddenly told by my GM that "I was no longer a good fit for the company"! Thats thier way of saying we dont want you any more. At first they started cutting down my shifts from 5 days a week to just one day a week! I live on my own and can't afford to pay bills. My GM constantly told me he would look into it but did nothing at all. I know for a fact that he used to tell me if he doesn't like someone he would just cut their hours until they quit! The same guy above in the first report used to also tell us the staff to make sure if we caught someone stealing from us to make sure we "kicked the s**t out of them!" I don't understand how a company that has values like "Treat everyone with respect and humility" can then turn around and tell us to kick the s**t out of customers who are stealing. I know stealing is wrong but no one deserve to be hurt over it. I witnessed a customer who came in a few weeks after we had opened the South Surrey store and tried to run out with a couple fake phones. There was about 12 best buy employees in the parking lot kicking him in the head and jumping on him!! It was one of the most brutal attacks I had ever seen. The poor guy was beat to a pulp and left shoeless, then dragged into the store in a neck choke until the police arrived. Afterwards Christian was high fiving people and all the thugs in best buy shirts were bragging about how they kicked him in the face. That is not what you should be teaching your employees! If you have values in place then perhaps you should follow them. As for all the paper and garbage being waisted that is 100% accurate! We used to throw everything in the garbage because no one cares! The best buy fliers, plastic bottles and cardboard waste ALL end up in one garbage! I'm disgusted at the way this company pretends to be so good on the surface but inside it's a whole other story. I'm sure not all GM's are like mine was and I hope not all Best Buys are that careless towards employees, customers and the environment. I encourage anyone who has had a similar experience to come forward.

POSTED: Friday, June 17, 2011

I too used to be an ex-manager working for this company. And I must admit that I had a similar experience myself, having been involved in at least 3 grand openings. I too can attest to the effect that I  witnessed mass amounts of material being wasted. I personally was involved in disposing of metals, glass, plastic, papers,  cardboards, and even brand-new electronic products. All of this was into the same bin. I was shocked at the total lack of concern for the environment. I would have thought a company of this size would have behaved more responsibly towards the envirnoment. Management was not only unsympathetic, but silenced me when it brought it up. Eventually my conscience forced mt resign from this company.

Furthermore, I did report the bribery being done to corporate and it cost me my job. I'm not disgrunteled as I have my hands in several outside investments. I simply want to share the truth about how this corrupt business loves to hide from the truth.

If you have more money than sense, feel free to pay for the PSP's or PRP's and help the corrupt employees get fat bonuses.

My job may have been taken from me however, the truth has been leaked and justice will be won!

This report is suspect...

AUTHOR: Ronny g - (USA)

POSTED: Friday, February 25, 2011

Granted...there can always be a GM who is not up to par. General Managers are humans too and humans can screw up..NO human is infallible regardless of what some "claim" here or on any website.

If you witnessed a GM paying off employees to lie on a survey...why did you not report it to the fraud hotline/corporate if you really cared so much?

What is also suspect is when you state .."extended insurance". BestBuy does not sell extended warranties or insurance, they sell protection plans...which leads to the next suspect info left on this report.

At the end you state and I quote "Say no to thier PSP/PRP (Product service plan or Product replacement plan)" They have not sold those in YEARS...it was changed YEARS ago (I think in 2008) to BTP (Black Tie Protection).

So either you are a disgruntled ex employee, or a liar, or both.
