Suntrup Nissan offers to provide "$5000 over KBB value" for all trade-ins if you're purchasing a new vehicle.  Unfortunately, it is only with a lot of research that you are able to determine how incredibly misleading this offer truly is.

First, the company offers the $5000 on top of KBB's "fair" value, regardless of the condition of your vehicle.  Secondly, the company requires that you purchase a new vehicle at MSRP, without advantage of any manufacturers discounts or the ability to negotiate a fair price.

In my case the biggest issue was that the offer is limited to one vehicle per sale.  I have two vehicles that I wished to trade for a new vehicle.  I provided my vehicle information to the salesperson and received a quote for my vehicle's value.  I was very upfront to this point about what I was trying to do.  After I received the value for both vehicles I mentioned that the prices looked good and requested the "best price" for the vehicle I was interested in.  At this point the internet salesperson mentioned he was tired of emailing about the potential deal and requested I call.

I did as asked and after speaking with the internet salesperson for a few minutes I learned that I would have to purchase the vehicle at MSRP to qualify for the promotion and that I could not get the offer on both of my vehicles.  Nowhere on the website does it mention that the offer is limited to one vehicle or that I would be required to purchase at MSRP.

In my opinion this offer is highly misleading at best.  If this is the way that business is done at Suntrup Nissan than I will most definitely not be doing business with them in the future.

Michael, You can 'Google' this- CAR SALES: TRICKS OF THE TRADE- CONSUMER ALERT, and watch the undercover video......

AUTHOR: Karl - (USA)

that is available from a Dateline investigation about how cars are sold in America, okay? Believe it or not, the majority of car dealers in the USA are deceptive and extremely manipulative when selling and leasing new and used vehicles.

It's just the 'American way' to sell cars in the USA.

Good luck to you!

Now they offer 8000 over KBB, If you actually believe you are not going to get bent over to the tune of at least 8000 on the price of the car then you absolutely deserve what you are going to get, buyer beware, this dealership is about as shady as it gets.

Common sense applies.

This type of promotion is offered by most new car dealers at one time or another.  It's most common when the manufacturer is offering sizable rebates and incentives (that they can keep).

If you think about it, the $5000 has to come from somewhere.   There's no logical way that a dealer could offer $5K more for your trade and not make it up somewhere else.   They not only have to make up the $5K, but they also have to make a profit on the sale.   This is done by inflating the new car's price and keeping all of the manufacturers incentives.

Whenever you see offers like this, just file them under "Too good to be true" and move on.  It's just a common sales gimmick to lure in the more gullible section of the population.
