Dear angry consumer who has a serious misunderstanding of the way health insurance works,

I have been a patient of Dr Chattman's for many years. Every single time I have set foot in their office I have been greeted with professionalism and kindness. I know first hand that when you walk in to the office, they ask you which insurance you have. Unfortunately, you must have an insurance company that Desert Foothills Medical Center does not contract with. Why? Probably because your insurance company does not reimburse enough for the doctor to break even on the visit. The reason they took your insurance card is because Dr. Chattman and his staff are nice enough to bill your insurance company even if they don't accept it. Which technically should be your job. But if the insurance company won't reimburse you for the cost of your care, you owe the money. Basically YOUR insurance refused to cover your bills. How is that the doctor's fault? It doesn't matter though...even though you think that doctors have to accept all health insurances...you are wrong. They get to choose, and if you don't like it, you can get your health care somewhere else where they do accept it. I have health insurance that Dr. Chattman is not contracted with. They always bill my insurance company for me, and if they won't pay for something, yes, I owe the difference. And I feel that it is a small price to pay for the exceptional care I receive. Oh, and you think that the office was set up in Carefree, AZ to prey on the elderly? Well you are right about one thing: Dr Chattman's patients are probably elderly and Dr. Chattman is one of the only providers I've found that is still accepting new medicare patients (which is good for me personally, because I'm almost there). I know Dr. Chattman has been treating the some of the same patients for over 39 years in Carefree, AZ. By this time, most of them are old! Obviously their doctor has been taking great care of them.

You sound radically angry and victimized. I cannot determine if your anger is about Dr. Chattman's medical service or just how he manages his practice. Are you a lawyer or a patient?

Did you call Dr. Chattmans office before booking an appointment to inquire about his billing practice? Did you inquire before your appointment about what insurance policies, if any, he accepts? I do every year and I am updated on which insurance Dr. Chattman does and does not accept. It's his business prerogative to not accept any insurance. It is my experience that his staff gladly and timely files my claims with my insurer for me. That way I am reimbursed for the service I already paid for at the time of service.

You do not sound knowledgeable about Dr. Chattmans professional presence in Carefree Arizona. When I did a check on Dr. Chattman I learned that he and his administrative and medical staff have been in this area for decades. His staff members have worked with Dr. Chattman for just as long - and I am not just speaking of Mrs. Chattman who is a professional business woman.

Dr. Chattman provides a valued service to those of us who choose to appreciate the level of expertise he has to offer and appreciate the convenience of the close proximity of his office to those of us who live so far north.

Dr. Chattman has worked into the evening hours to tend to me at the end of his busy patient-filled day. I have experienced that Dr. Chattmans after hours and week end clinic is a tremendous service for my family's medical emergencies as well as during business hours in situations when an appointment was not available.

I appreciate Dr. Chattman and his staff for the service they continue to provide me.
