MyPoints BonusMail used to be an innovative Opt In email marketing system that rewarded members with points, redeemable for gift cards, for reading the marketing emails and clicking through to websites.

If you are a MyPoints member you suddenly have noticed an increase in SPAM. You may also have noticed that you are now getting SPAM from the very advertisers and companies who are on the marketing emails from MyPoints. Why? Because MyPoints apparently like most of our corporations today, is letting  greed is override ethics and even common sense.

Now on the Bonus Mails, in teeny tiny letters buried below the actual advertisement and click links, it tells you that if you want to opt out of further DIRECT emails from this advertiser, you have to click a link and OPT OUT. The policy is unclear, but apparently merely by being on the email list and having the email go to you, they are now giving themselves permission to SPAM you. Further, your email address is now up for grabs to be sold, given etc. to other marketing lists so the deluge begins.

This is against best practices for email marketing of any kind and is particularly slimy for an email marketer that depends on the good will of members to read their emails.  OPT OUT is NEVER acceptable. MyPoints may have notified members of this change buried in eight pages of privacy info in order to camaflogue what they were doing. I never saw any notice and I'm willing to bet other members didn't either. Further, they don't have it in big blinking letters on their site that you are signing up for OPT OUT Spam in addition to the BonusMail you think you are getting.

Please complain to the FTC about United Online's slimy SPAM and spread the word to OPT OUT of BonusMail from MyPoints where the bonus is SPAM!

FTC SPAM Complaint : https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/

Emails that you receive from advertisers that employ the OPT OUT method should be sent to:

spam@uce.gov

And even better report them to SPAM COP. (((link redacted))) Maybe when a few of United Online /MyPoints customers get their ISP's blocked for spamming they'll decide to return to ethical business practices.
