Brought my Morkie in to have his teeth cleaned.  He had horrible breath & vet said they needed to be cleaned. Picked him up and vet said he had 1 rotton tooth that fell out but it will be fine. 1 1/2 weeks later his head swelled up & was grimacing when he chewed.

Brought him back & he put him on antibiotoic & did not take any x-rays or give us any pain meds. Next day his eye swelled shut & developed an abscess on the side of his head that exploded, bleeding profusely & left an open wound.  Dog was very sick & lethargic.

Took him to a REAL vet & found out he has 5 more rotten abscessed teeth & root was still in from previous tooth that had fallen out.  Needed surgery & IV anitbiotics & pain meds.  Ended up costing me $656.  Not to mention putting my poor dog through hell.

The other side of the story

AUTHOR: Cathy - ()

POSTED: Saturday, June 01, 2013

I have been a client of Dr. Vollmar for over 20 years and have never had an issue or problem. Could it be that the dog's teeth have been neglected for years and when you decided to finally do something about it, rather than taking the blame yourself you have blamed the vet?

I have been told that certain dog breeds can have bad teeth, those include: maltese, yorkies, chihuahuas, and toy poodles to name a few. I have have my pet's teeth cleaned by Dr. Vollmar and he did a wonderful job! One tooth had to be extracted. I know he doesn't do dental x-rays and refers those to a larger pet hospital.

Dr. Vollmar's fees are reasonable (less than half of the other clinics in the area), I've done the research. Did you talk to Dr. Vollmar about your concerns before you posted your report? This wasn't a ripoff but merely your dissatisfaction in what you THINK was his fault. He did not make your dog's teeth bad nor did he cause them to abcess.

I believe you owe this man an apology rather than criticism. I wish more veterinarians were like him.
