Txu energy has provided me service for the past 4 years here in north texas, and was fairly decent till the past 8 months.

what gets me is i heat with gas. and  for some reason which txu cannnot or won;t explain is my electric bill this past winter in 2 times higher than my summer bill when i use 2 A C units,i called txu a month ago complaining about the excessive over charge  since i live or a small fixed income. and i spend many hours trying to cut down monthly expenditures / exspenses. my last 3 bills exceeded over $220-$300 pr month and all i have in use if a refridgerator and a  cook stove which i use less than 4 hours a week along with a T V and cd player that is seldom if ever on the t v is used maybe 3 hours a day and only use not over 2 lights about 2 hours a nite.

and even my hotwater heater is Gas so that eliminates that for usage,i have 1 yard light that comes on maybe 6 hours a nite now what gets me is my electric bill in the summer was only $80-$126 pr month with 2 A C units which i turn off every fall and winterize the house. i had txu come out and test the meter  since i do have prior experience working with other electric companies and  doing meter installs and line repair and also have very exstensive knowledge in appliance repairs and thier usage pr KWH as well as amp load for unit well they came out alright! the service tech was nice but then what else would you expect when their ripped you a new A0hole in utility cost?he told me that my meter was within thier standards and that he didnt suspect the meter to be at fault?  now! let me explain this much i do know  have a veyr wide background in engineering and tech design applications  accross the board in 11 different fields of engineering and usage. i know! that these so call enegery efficeint meters  they install are controlled by sattelite! so in essence i done some research into there design app's and ability and founf that not only can they read your usage by sattlite?  and turn your meter off and on at will!! but they also can ( MODIFY) / controll what the meter read's and make it read (EXACTLY) what they want anytime they want! in most normal cases  as a rule  of thumb a single person  uses on the AVERAGE  between 18-28 KW pr hour! if even that!and  a family of 2-4 uses approx 22-38 KWH in 92% of the homes today as a rule!  now here we got TXU showing i use again more!! electric now than i did in the summer with less applainces running and showing / making my meter show over 42-45- kwh pr day!

now !! let me say this they may pull this kinda  thievery crap on laymen people and the general public  ! but for them to pull this crap on someone that is actually wise to their game and their proceedure  is down right assinine and i know that if enough people got involved  to file a class action suit against TXU period this type of bullsh*t

process would cease! i know what i know!! cause i use to work in areas with ex employers that have done the exact same crap to boost the end of the year quota's  as well as generate bonuses from the customers that use their service to give those greedy Fat b**tards thier end of the year bonus and raises!  this  just proves that not only our goverment as well as stock brokers and banks are sticking it deep in our back side  .. so  is  TXU! thing is with this so called sattelite control sh*t they have going on they will hard to catch or stop!cause  all they got to do is puch a button on a keyboard to put the meters back in the correct action of flow they should have been in all along! and then boom they can keep ph*cking us as customers!

Robert from Buffalo a "card carying" electrician...

AUTHOR: Ronny g - (USA)

POSTED: Tuesday, March 09, 2010

Interesting. If what Robert states is true..we have something in common. Although I no longer reside in NYS, and am no longer a licensed electrician for home/industrial in NYS, I was a local 3 union electrician, as was my uncle, and Grandfather. I now specialize in DC engineering.

Although there seems to be a potential issue with this posters electrical usage..there is more to it then just KWH...such as COST per KWH which should be addressed.

There is no reason to insult and belittle this poster. The electric bill and claimed KWH usage is above average granted, and perhaps there is an issue which warrants looking into.

The cost of electricity depends on where you live, how much you use, and possibly when you use it. There are also fixed charges that you pay every month no matter how much electricity you use. For example, you may pay X amount for the privilege of being a customer of the electric company, no matter how much energy you use.

Check your utility bill for the rates in your area. If it's not on your bill then look it up on the utility's website.

Most utility companies charge a higher rate when you use more than a certain amount of energy, and they also charge more during summer months when electric use is higher due to air conditioning.  And this makes it all the more odd the winter bills are higher.

Some utilities break their charges into two, a standard charge plus a fuel charge, each charged by kWh. The standard charge might change only infrequently, while the fuel charge goes up and down according to the local price of fuel for the power plant. Make sure you add both parts to get your total cost per kWh.

The average cost of residential electricity was 12/kWh (according to dept of energy stats) in the U.S. in April 2009. The average household used 936 kWh/mo. in 2007 and would pay about $108 for it based on the April 2009 average rate.
The cost of electricity varies by region. In 2009 the price ranged from 7 in Idaho to 22 in Hawaii.

So if your meter is actually showing 42-45 KWH per day...it is higher then "average", but not by an absurd amount, at least not according to DOE statistics. If we assume your average to the low side to determine your average KWH usage per month..say 40KWH x 30 days..that would total 1200KWH per month. The national average as stated according to the dept of energy is 936. So somewhere in your home..there may be a problem causing excessive consumption..the cost being paid however is another story and dependent upon other factors as stated.

Have a reading done properly, perhaps by an actual licensed electrician and not the utility company..they should have no problem determining what is causing the excessive consumption..or, if there is any shenanigans going on with the meter.

Check your math again!

AUTHOR: Robert - (USA)

POSTED: Monday, March 08, 2010

"in most normal cases  as a rule  of thumb a single person  uses on the AVERAGE  between 18-28 KW pr hour! if even that"

Lets assume you're average of 18-28 KWh consumption- say 23 KWH.

Here's the math for a month.  23 KHW X 24 hours in the day X 30 days in the month would equal 16560 KWH consumed in a 30 day period!  Outrageous!  Your estimates are way off!!!

I don't believe for a minute you're an engineer-your language skills are atrocious.

Oh, FYI, besides being a computer consultant and electronics engineering technician, I'm also a card carrying ELECTRICIAN! (NYS).

What I would do is compare the KHW USAGE from January 2009 with January 2010 and see if your actual consumption increased.  If it did, then you need to poke around your home to determine WHAT is eating your electricity.

You can check out the average billing program through TXU - I have it and even got a big check from them last year because of the program

Did Oncor change your meter?? There have been many problems with the new smart meters - check out www.wfaa.com
