I received a letter on August 16, 2010, from the "Secret Society," requesting that I fax back to them, no later than August 20, 2010 (or have postmarked by 8/20/10), to receive a 56-page "Orientation Manual," which is the first of two installments from the Society. The Orientation Manual was free. When I received it, it contained five stores of individuals who supposedly went from "rags to riches," and claimed that I was one of the "chosen few" who possessed the special talents and/or attributes to be as successful as they were. All I had to do was send $139.95 by August 27, 2010. They indicated that if I did not send in the money by the 27th, I would be too far into what they called "cycle two," (which, they described as "breaking bondage..." whatever that means), and that if I waited longer than the 27th, it would be too late. That should have been the first "red flag." In their original letter, they made a point of telling me that the letter they sent was mailed "first class" and not "third class bulk," thus, attempting to validate the legitimacy of the information contained therein. When I spoke with my husband about this his immediate reaction was "it's a scam...run a "google" search on "Secret Society Scam."" And sure enough, I found PLENTY of information on this organization. None of it pretty! The Society contacted me this afternoon (8/27/10 at approximately 12:30 PM), identified themselves, and I said "you're calling from the society?" They said, "yes." I had left a voice mail the other day, stating, in no uncertain terms, that I knew they were operating a scam and that they would not receive even $1.00 from me. The gentlemen I spoke with (Charlie) indicated he had not listened to my voice mail (which I found odd, as I left the message days ago), and I then told him I had done my research on the "Society" and that I knew they were perpetrating a scam. He laughed very uneasily. I then said, thank you very much, and hung up. I wish organizations like this could understand that they are placing false hope in the minds of many vulnerable people, who do believe that they can "get rich quick," if only they knew how. The Society proclaims they know EXACTLY how to do this and that all of their members will ultimately become "filthy rich," essentially. This organization needs to be shut down, at all costs (no pun intended). The have no right to take people's hard earned money and send them a bunch of worthless material in return, that will get them nowhere. They know what they're doing is wrong, and I will report them to every anti-scam agency I can find in order to put them out of business!
