My only daughter got married this month. They wanted to use one of their favorite restaurant's in the Chicago for the reception. We had met with the sales representative 4 times over 18 months to make sure that we did the tasting; quantitiy of food was appropriate, etc. At her recommendation, we ordered "plenty" of food.
The reception started out terrific with great drinks and appretizers. We wanted and thought we were getting 3 different service stations with again plenty of food. (They recommened 750 skewers for 200 guests). The salad station was never set up, as they called my daughter a few days before the wedding and said, it would be better to put on the taco station. The salad station turned out to be a bowl of lettuce with dressing on the side. Nothing else. So now we are down to 2 stations. Half way through my guests getting their dinner, they ran out of food at the skewer station. Which means that 100 guests must have taken 7-8 skewers (they were very large and enough to feed a good size man) and the other half got only the taco station with the salad bowl. You can imagine how embarrassed we were to think we would invite our friends and family and pay that kind of money for a taco bar! They were not prepared to cook more or provide additional food. I was horrified!
As the night went on, the service was terrible with no server removing dishes or water re-fills. Yet they want 21% for this kind of service. I could list many other non-deliveries that night but you get the picture. After seveal conversations with the banquet director, Jesus, over several weeks, what they have offered us is a free meal! I am now in the process of stopping the Visa payment to get this resolved. So the bottom line is they don't stand behind their restaurant for lack of food preparation, delivery or service. Very disappointing. Please do not have your reception or party here.

You said that the appetizers and drinks were great, you didn't say anything about the Taco Bar running out and even by your descriptions of the Skewers 750 should have been enough.
You seem to be upset that they didn't have another 750 Skewers ready to go. Well if you pay for 750 they are not going to have another 750 "just in case". Even if they had the supplies in the restaurant, by the time they got them prepared and cooked the reception would have been over. It sounds like if anyone should be embarrassed it would be the people who were taking 7-8 skewers.
Based on what you wrote here stopping the Visa Payment is probably not the best idea. First off, Credit Cards generally will not get in the middle of what is basically a "Quality of Service" and a Contract issue.
But if they do a Charge-Back the restaurant is not going to just say "oh well" they will take up collection efforts against you. This may include turning you over to a collection agency. It may also include them filing a suit against you. If they fulfilled the agreement, even if it wasn't enough food, you would probably loose. You would then not only have the catering bill to deal with but they may also be allowed to charge you for the court fees and their legal fees as well.
