My name is Shane Simpson and I just received a notice from this Credit Collections Agency saying that I owe $623.61 to AT&T. In their notice they threaten that failure to pay such a debt will cause a negative reporting to the credit bureau. There are a few problems with this: (1) that particular service from AT&T was cancelled in December 2012 at which time I owed $97, (2) AT&T is my service provider for my cell phone service and they have me set up on automatic payments every month so if I did owe them money, they would already have it, (3) on this collection's notice there is a phone number that I have never seen nor ever had and it's attached to my name. There are so many things about this that scream "FRAUD" and "SCAM" it isn't funny. I have already gone onto their website and there is no way to electronically communicate--hello this is the 21st century; not to mention that I have never heard of a collections agency being open on Sunday. I have already done a search online and even found several reports that this agency and their actions are fraudulent. I am sick and tired of being harassed by scammers! Here's a tip to anyone out there trying to scam people and screw over hard working individuals....GROW UP AND GET A REAL JOB AND LIFE! Continue to scam people and you will enjoy an eternity in Hell after answering to the judge that shows true justice. I will be reporting this to the Better Business Bureau and if possible seeking legal action.

You should also check your own credit report to see if anyone stole your identity to open a phone number. You are allowed to retrieve credit report information from all 3 credit bureaus (once a year for each). If your identity was stolen and someone really used your info to open a phone number, it should be in the credit report (regardless collection because its status would already be 'late' in there). If you do not know how to get the free report, go to www.annualcreditreport.com site, select a state, enter your information, select a bureau, answer another set of questions on the selected bureau site, and you will get the report for free. Remember, you can obtain only once a year (from the day you last obtain the report). If you attempt to get another report from the same site, you will be asked for credit card info to pay for your report.
