I am a 43yr old disabled male, married with 2 kids 1 of which is handicaped. I have been retrained in a different profession because I was not able to preform my normal job duties because it exasterbated my condition. And I could only work part time. I took a $75K a year pay cut I am currently awaiting settlements from Workmans Comp and Social Security but as we all know the process is slow.

So while I was waiting for my Workman Comp settlement my debt was climbing, I reached out to Debt Defense Services (salesman named Eric) for assistance. They took all of my debit info and told me that they could save me over $30k, I thought that was kind of strange since they haven't even spoken to my creditors but with my current situation and frame of mind it sounded legit. Eric told me not to pay my creditors bills so they would be passed off to collecton agencies. Well what I wasn't told by Eric is that the Creditors can sit on the debt so they can run up my total with high intrest rates and penelties. So by the time the debt was given over to collection agencies it was much more than the original amout than what I originally gave to DDS. So if and when things ever did get settled I would be responsible for any additional amounts that were not agreed upon when I signed the contract with DDS.

After about 3 months of not paying creditors I never received any threats or letters from any collection agencies and my Wormans Comp case was postponed until Oct, 2013. At this time I was swimming in debt and there was nothing DDS could do because my debit was not being passed off to collection agencies so I was paying them to do nothing. So I reached out to them and asked if I could please cancel the program and have my money returned. Because I entered Chapter 7.

Now to be fair DDS did return some money to me only because they were supposed to contact me 1st before taking the money out of my banking account to make sure that I could afford to pay them because I was on a very tight budget. So I reached out to the head of accounting (Nichole) and I explained my situation to her and why I was leaving the program and why I entered Chapter 7. She was very understanding and she told me that she would refund $237.00 to my bank account the next day. Well the next day came and the money wasn't refunded so I called and spoke to Greg and he told me that it was processed and I will get it the next day. Well that day came and went and no refund, so I called again and spoke to a director named Rick who was not only arrogant he hung up on me. $237.00 is not alot of money to DDS but to me its putting food on the table as well as keeping my car from being repossed.

If you are a person who finds themself in a similar situation talk to a bankruptcy lawyer, there consultation is free and they will put you on the right path and there fees and no more than what companies like DDS would charge, weather its entering chap 7, 11 or making arrangements with your creditors. Don't do business with 3rd parties, they con you into getting into a contract telling you that thay are going to save you thousands but when all is said and done you end up paying more than what was orignally noted on the contract. And like I stated they LIE!! what king of a company screws with people who are hanging on by a thread for a crappy $237.00? Think about it!

Read the contract!

I have been in the program for 3 months already, the contract DOES SAY THAT YOU WILL GO ON DEFAULT AND RECEIVE LETTERS FROM COLLECTIONS AND IT ALSO SAYS THAT YOU HAVE 7 DAYS TO CANCEL. If you decided to change your mind after 7 days.......GUESS WHAT's gonna happen! The contract also lists all the monthly payments with dates and amounts ( you Are placed on a program based onnyour current debt, not based on a future acumulated debt) the payment plan cannot be altered. I am sure that losing 200dlls for changing your mind hurts, but you cant just point your finger at company and employees and accuse them of ripping you off just because you failed to change your time during the 7 day cool off period.
