I purchased my Yamaha R6 new from Fun Bike Center (FBC) in October 2012. Fortunately I paid cash so there was none of the tomfoolery going on with my credit. The sale went fairly quick and I did not opt for the extended warranty or extended service plan they offered which I was sure was a ripoff in itself.

I went to them for the regularly scheduled maintenance for the first 12,000 miles. All seemed well and good until the 12,000 mile service. When dropping off the bike the service writer commented that the valves would need adjusting, which is quite expensive. He was set straight by me because I knew the valves didn't need to be touched until after 24,000 miles.

After I got home from getting the bike back I went through the service records to find out the ripoff they couldn't get from the purchase of the bike. At 8,000 miles the spark plugs were changed as they should have been. When I checked the service report from the 12,000 mile service it said that the plugs were changed again which was unnecessary until 16,000 miles.

I went right back to the shop armed with both service records and spoke to the service manager about discrepancy. He reluctantly did what he should have done and refunded me the parts and labor cost of the spark plugs. I waited at the shop while he was doing his computer wizardry which took nearly an hour.

The issue now gets murky because the 8,000 and 12,000 services are two different levels. The later being a minor service in comparison. The refunded amount brought the cost of the 12,000 service down to the same amount of the 8,000 which I didn't catch until I had gotten home. In addition, the plugs that were put in at 8,000 miles were the wrong heat range and they put the correct ones in at 12,000.

I'm already involved in a class action against FBC for failing to have the destination and assembly charges hanging from the price tag on the bike when I bought it. I've since found a much more reputable shop where I'll be taking my bike from now on. Stay away from these cons or at the very least watch them with an eagle eye.
