Basically a vanity fraud.

Got a call if I had interest to have my name published in Who is who international and that in a subsequent call I would be interviewed. I filled out an online form and then 2 weeks later I got a call by a lady who explained professionally and well done the purpose of being interviewed in depth to include only real VIPs. She went through my CV asked some questions describing why I should be included. It sounded serious and for real. She asked for my private adress and email and I said it is hard to spell, so she should send me an email so I could answer her. The email came from worldwidebranding.com and we continued the conversation. I started to question the seriousity when some answers and references to people who are in this directory were not matching reality but kept quiet. Also, when she mentioned, the company is 15 years old I got very suspicious, because I had known the printed version of who is who more than 20 years ago. She tried to brush over this, but from that moment on my guard was on.

After finishing the questions part I was explained the benefits of publishing my onlince CV, press release, contacts with about 600.000 other professionals etc. That is where I started to wait for her pitch for my payment. And indeed very smooth, she explained the Platinum, Gold and trial membership with prices of 899, 699 and 199 USD and asked which one I would choose. I said, that it is a basic principle to sleep over any financial investment one night and I would get back to her. Then she pushed hard to get me to at least go for a trial membership and insisted that it had to be now since she "had to release" my file to the publishers. I said no and finished the conversation.

Then I go in the mail a request from paypal to pay 199 USD for a trial membership with reference to the person I I spoke to by phone BUT the paypal recipient was not worldwidebranding.com but worldwidewhoswho.com

A quick google search of worldwidewhoswho.com  and I found several warnings about vanity scams and this website. Then I reviewed all materials more carefully and now I am convinced this is money wasted by playing on my ego and the offer to belong to the who is who.
