K & L Construction Ken Heath Did not finish work and will not refund me for the work not completed. Grifton, North Carolina

I hired K & L Construction/ Ken Heath (owner) to build two run-in horse barns for me and paid him to install a standby generator. Ken completed building the barns except for making the windows swing to the barn. He had them opening halfway and we wanted them to swing to barn so the horses would not hit them. He did not do this and one of the horse ripped the window off the barn. He was suppose to put up two gates and only put up one. The one he put up was not the way I had told him either. He started staining the barns and finished one about halfway. The staining did not look good for he tried to use a cheap small garden hand pump sprayer that did not apply it evenly and is clearly not designed to spray stain. The barns were left unfinished for several weeks and after several excuses I told Ken I would hire someone else and to refund my money on the barn he had not started and to refund my money on the generator he had not installed and the gate he did not put up. He agreed Sept. 3rd he would do that and after many excuses I still have not got a refund check. Not only was this a problem but he was suppose to clean up after he finished and I had to continuosly contact him and try to get him out there to clean up his mess. He finally came out after I told him my fiancee had move all the scrap materials out of the pastures for she was ready to put the horses in them. After he came out and got the scrap materials he still left empty boxes. Once Ken finished the big jobs and got the money he dropped the ball. I have contacted BBB and we still have not received a response from him. I just want everyone to know that is considering to use Ken that he is a smooth talker, acts like a professional and will tell you what you want to hear.  I thought I was being fair by not making him refund me the barn he did not finish and for the gate he did not put up correctly.  Ken has cost me a lot of money and  I never imagine he would do this. It is also making it more difficult for me to get the money for I am in Afghanistan. I assume he thought this would be a easy way to rip someone off since they were not in the country and could not stay on top of things.  All I want is my refund!
