I recently answered an employment add for a "constomer sevice representitive"  upon arriving to the interview i saw it was a Kirby vaccuum service center. Perfect as i am looking for a job in service and repairs ie: customer service. During the course of the interview i asked three times if the position would require and door-to-door or direct sales (as i am repair technician) not having any interest in a sales position. I was told that i would not be required to do any sales for the position but if i assisted in a sale i would recieve a commision. So, i continued with the interview, assured of the position i applied for for was valid.

The next day i recieve a call from the interviewer and offered the position, i was told that it was a business casual attire required position, which as a customer SERVICE, sounded reasonable as i would be interfacing directly with the consumer about repairing there purchases. I went out that day, being given the job, and purchased the appropriate wardrob for the job, I spent two-hundred dollars in shoes and pants to be assured i had enough of a selection for a 5-6 day work week. The following day i arrived on time for the orientation! After sitting threw 4-hours of a presentation and being bombarded with the prospect of exotic trips, cars and trinkets i was very upset. I held my disposition for the rest of the meeting and informed the presenter i needed to speak with her after the meeting.

After everyone left the room i asked her if there was some confusion about the job a had recieved! I informed her, i was told in no uncertain terms that this was not a direct sales position i had been given, i stated that the interviewer and the person that called me granting me the job has blatantly misrepresented the position offered, and this had cost me two-hundred dollars in new clothes and 4-hours of my time for a job that i would never accept nor apply to. She asked that i call her later that day to talk somemore only to be told that were looking for people that were excited about the position they were offering. Obviously, that was not me, she did not offer any apology for the (confusion) nor offered to reimburse me for my time or losses due to thier MISREPRESENTATION of the position i was very clear to clarify before proceding with the interview......I am A 41 yr old single father of two children this clear case of fraudulant hiring practice has cost me the ability to pay my rent, as i was granted a job and counted on said job for the replacement of my investment of clothing for the non-existant clothing!!!!!! thankyou KIRBY now i have to move god knows where or go to a shelter!!!

They're Eager to Sell Their Product to You, But, Not So Eager To Back Their Product Up When it Isn't Working Properly.

A few months back, we purchased a Kirby vacuum cleaner from J & L Distributing out of Reno, NV.

For the first few months, it was working just fine. But, for awhile now, it is having an issue of jumping and skipping when I push it forward.  I called J&L Distributing to troubleshoot the issue. I was transferred to the representative who handles the tech support issues. Upon speaking with this individual and explaining the vacuum's issue, his response was, "Well, I don't know what to tell you."  I then requested, that a sales representative from J&L, stop by our home, and help me trouble shoot the issue. His response, in a sarcastic tone, was, "Oh, REALLY? You would like that would you?"  He then told me he would get with the owner of the company, and that he would call me back.  I said I would call back in a few days, if I hadn't heard back. His response was, "Oh no, Ma'am, you will hear back from me by the end of today."   I didn't receive that phone call, and there were no missed calls from him on my cell phone for that day.

The next day, I called J&L and requested to talk to this individual.  He agreed to send a representative out to my home. The rep showed up at my house, impatient attitude and all.  He started to vacuum,  The first thing he said was, "What?" "I don't see what you are talking about?" I was not happy with that and said, "Try it some more, it will start skipping, I guaruntee it."  He kept vacuuming, and then attempted to placate me with, "Oh, this happens a lot with this particular model, it's normal."  I told him I didn't like that answer. So, he continued to vacuum and then said,   "You have the settings wrong."  I then asked him, "Then, why has this machine worked properly for months on this same exact setting, (which by the way is the setting that the sales rep originally set it on for our carpet.) and now all of a sudden it is having issues?"  He said,  " I don't know."

Then we take it to another room, where he sets the vacuum on it's proper setting for that particular carpet pile, and it is still having the issue. His explanation now is,  "Well, you are going too fast with the machine and it is causing it to skip."

I then explain to him, that the machine's suction isn't working properly.  He asks me, in a sarcastic tone,  "Oh really, how's that?"  So, I explained to him that when the sales person gave me his sales spiel, he talked up the engineering of this machine and how the positioning of the suction is located in the center of the vacuum head, therefore, causing EVEN suctioning accross the roller brush, and preventing any debris from being kicked out to the side of the head, subsequently landing back onto the carpet. Neddless to say at this point, my diplomatic reservoir is tapped out, and I explained to  him, "My vacuum is jumping/skipping up and down,  and  I am seeing debris flying out the side of the vacuum head and landing back onto my carpet, so, this machine is not working properly!"

He told me to take it into the repair shop in Reno (we live 4 hours away from Reno.)  "Or" he says, "You can ship it in to the repair shop."  I am guessing that the shipping and handling is coming out of my pocket.   I say guessing, because he couldn't give me an answer to that.

So, which is it buddy???  It's normal?  It's on the wrong setting?  I am going too fast, when pushing the machine?  Or, is it that you think that I am 'just a girl' and I wouldn't understand, so let me throw all of my lame excuses at you in an attempt to appease you, so that I can get on my way,  because you are REALLLY cutting into my sales time!

Now, my task at hand is finding a 'Professional'  Kirby dealership that can help me with this issue.

I genuinely like my Kirby machine. I would purchase one again in the future. However, after this experience, I would NOT purchase one from J&L Distributing.

Kirby is a predator

AUTHOR: oregonvet - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, May 02, 2012

The issue is not the product, even though overpriced and not all it's hyped to be. The issue is the predatory sales and hiring practices.
Kirby door-to-door solicitors never seem to bother with such trivial matters as permits and licenses. They target low-income and ethnic neighborhoods and depend upon the general ignorance of those with little education or English language skills. Most of these people cannot afford the nice $450 Dyson at WalMart, much less a $2500 vacuum. Kirby plays not on the quality of the vacuum so much as they play upon the emotions of their target. They tell them their carpet and furniture is disgustingly dirty and how can they allow their loved ones to be in such a filthy environment. When the customer realizes the price and says they cannot possibly afford such a price, the Kirby rep feigns calls to his manger to reduce the price and then gives the real closer.... Kirby will finance you! Auto-pay on your bank account!
I could give many more examples and people can say the customer should have known better, etc., etc. Bottom line is that Kirby is a predator and they encourage all the activities engaged in by their reps. If Kirby corporate has an issue with these tactics, then why do they do nothing but try to distance themselves by saying they are not responsible for rogue representatives?
Kirby dealers are NOT good neighbors in your community. They are a blight.

#4 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Seriously?

AUTHOR: ThatOnePerson - (United States of America)

POSTED: Sunday, April 15, 2012

I recently worked for J & L Distributing. When I went in for the interview, I was told that it was a position setting up and displaying Kirby home care products. My family owned a 15 year old Kirby, so I knew the product was good. When I was offered the position, I was excited to learn more about Kirby and get started. I went through the first day of training, and was still excited. I was told, up front, that I would be going in, setting up a display, demonstrating the latest Kirby model, and then my team leader would come in and close and help with the paperwork. I was told ALL of this over the course of that first day. Yes, they bragged a bit about the trips, money, cars, etc. They have the right to brag. I enjoyed my time working for Kirby and working for J & L Distributing. Unfortunately, the job just wasn't for me, but it's not a bad company to work for and the President is a very approachable guy. Try taking your issues to him instead of posting about them on the internet, it looks better. When I started the job, I was told (by the President himself!) that I would be starting work at 10AM and that there was NO telling when I would be getting home. I don't know about other people... but the class that I was a part of was fully informed before we were sent out. I, unfortunately, was not able to keep working for them due to some health issues, but I LOVED my time with J & L. Oh... and to the guy who spent $200 on clothing... that's why they made receipts, so you can take things back!

Kirby IS a scam

AUTHOR: JB - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, March 21, 2012

Yet ANOTHER person who was lied to and scammed by the Kirby Company. To the person who wrote this complaint: I would STRONGLY suggest to you to contact your State Attorney General. I (along with several other people), was successful in getting Kirby barred from doing any business in our county and hopefully soon, our entire state. To the criminal and liar that owns this dealership: you sir, are nothing but a liar and a thief. You LIE to job applicants and take advantage of them, and then you BREAK labor laws when you put these people to work in your sales system. Yes, you break labor laws. You know this is true.

That sounds lovely, and anyone can get on a soapbox and extoll their own virtues, but you did not address this gentleman's complaint or situation. He was directly lied to by your company, and instead of apologizing and attempting to contact him to correct this, you just spout talking points. It makes you and your company look even worse.

J & L Distributing: Truth about this company

AUTHOR: JB - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, January 12, 2012

We are responding to some of the outrageous remarks that have been made about our company on the internet. We categorically and absolutely denounce some of the slanderous statements about our company. To begin, every person that represents J&L distributing Inc. has been thoroughly background checked to assure our customer's safety. We have maintained an A to B rating with the Better Business Bureau for years. For all of you out there who wonder about us let me enlighten you a bit about our company. J&L Distributing pays over $15,000 in tax revenue a month to support our local community. That is on top of
the non perishable food items that have been collected and donated to local churches throughout the Carson Valley area. Last year alone J&L Distributing paid over $1 million in payroll to our representatives. We have been a local company for 15 years. We have been a member of the community and have a local service center in the same establishment since 1992. It disgusts me to think that someone with a computer and an opinion can say whatever he/she feels without having any sustaining evidence. We have had some people claim that we are out door to door canvassing homes to later burglarize. Some have stated
this as "fact" this is outrageous. That is a felony action. We have NEVER in the 38 years of being in business had even one incident of that happening, not once!

Our business is an in home delivery business. We have seven delivery vans with our representatives that set up, display and instruct our customers on their new purchases. We did $4,200,000 in business last year locally. We are part of this community and we are proud of our business. It offers genuine advancement opportunities to all of our representatives and employees. Rapid advancement and upward management opportunities are real and available. We have had several representatives who in their first year made over $50,000.

We work hard here at J&L Distributing and are proud of it. We take care of our local and rural community customers. We are fully licensed and bonded.  I just wanted to set the story straight.

President of J&L
