I attended the LA Comedy Awards several years ago after buying a ticket from a comedian friend to support him in his quest to make acting and comedy his full time career.

First of all, I would like to state that it was a fabulous event, and well worth the money. The show was great, the red carpet was really cool, and the networking opportunities were abundant. I actually met a woman there who works in the entertainment industry, who several month's later made a substantial donation to a non-profit organization that I volunteer with that I first brought to her attention at the event.

I also met a likeable young struggling comedian there.. He is no longer struggling due in no small part to the L.A. Comedy Awards. Apparently he sent a package which included a press release on his receiving one of the L.A. Comedy Awards, to try to get some work by one of the top film directors in the world. To his complete surprise, this comedian recieved a call from the director himself from New Zealand (on a film shoot location) to talk about a part in one of his upcoming films.

Sometime later, after he got the part, and was on the set with the director, the director mentioned that when he was looking for a comic actor to play the role, with so many hundreds of submissions to review, the main reason he focused on his submission and spent enough time going over it to give him serious consideration (which ultimately resulted in him getting the role) was because the inclusion of the LA Comedy Award in his Introductory package caught the director's attention.

This turned out to be the young actors "big break" as he has now worked with this Oscar winning director on several projects as well as others he has gotten from that exposure. Needless to say, he is no longer struggling.

I guess the LA Comedy Awards, is like Life as they say... "what you get out of it is directly related to what you put into it."

Now obviously, everyone who receives such an award does not automatically get the same results.

, but then again, being a successful actor or comedian is not a game for whiners, complainers and sissies. It is a tool like anything else. Way more useful if you understand it for what it is and know how to use ot properly. If you don't think it will be a good investment for your career, then don't sign up.

All I can say is that for at least this one comedian, it turned out to be the best investment he ever made. He has already earned the original investment back many thousands of times because of his assocation with the LA Comedy Awards.

I am looking forward to going to the next one.

LA Comedy Awards helps lesser known performers by asking them to buy and sell tickets for their own appearances after being offered a nomination. LA Comedy Awards DOES NOT tell people to pay 500.00, that's absurd. Getting recognition for their comedy, the performer must campaign to win an award by showing up.

Performers get tickets at a discounted rate as well so they can make money from selling them, how is that a scam? This rip off report enrages me because it disparages all my hard work, and all those others who contribute to this awesome event that cost tens of thousands to produce.

I bought 15 pre-sale tickets and participated because it was good for my career. I was honored to be considered for the show. No one else has a rare showcase with this kind of recognition in Hollywood for underdogs. I was delighted to be considered for the show. I ended up winning an Award because I campaigned and earned it.

The anonymous person who left this fraudulent report is disgusting coward, to falsely disparage a great opportunity out of self entitlement is childish at best. What is wrong with people.

I agree with what was written above. It's a scam and a shame. It takes advantage of new comedians trying to get a break. He gives an award to EVERYONE, then comes to you with promises of fame and how much it will cost. If you pay you perform and WIN. If you don't pay, you're left with a fake paper that is an 'award' and never contacted again.

And the guy above is right, he gets angry at you and defensive if you inquire about the $$$, and then he finds some way to re-describe it to try and make it sound like it's 'sponsorship'. 

He's evil. STAY AWAY from him and his awards, the will do nothing for your career, most likely just hurt it because you're associating with a scam awards.
