I was in my gallery when a little old lady came in asking if I'd like to support the police. Of course I said yes and she asked if I'd like to put an ad in the Police diary. I was dubious but she persuaded me to place an ad. It was  busy, and she made me feel very awkward. I asked her if she could wait 5 minutes so i could discuss it with my husband and business partner. She said she was in a rush. I asked for her number and she said she only did personal visits. I asked if she could come back tomorrow and she said she was about to go on holiday. So I signed the form she shoved under my nose, thinking I'd cancel the minute she'd gone, as I knew, by law I had a cooloing off period. The gallery was packed and when she'd gone i realised she hadn't left me a copy of what I'd signed. I went to the Police the next day - they were supportive and said the woman didn't have a leg to stand on. I've just received the invoice, which is strange as I haven't even told them what copy I want - not that I want to place an ad of course. It's ironic that this woman is using these sort of unethical pracices to promote the police! Don't have anything to do with this operation.

When the agent called on this business in Bude the lady as you can see in the report was quite happy to place an advert in the diary. The lady maintained that the gallery was busy, the the agent maintains that while she was there only one other person came into the gallery and that she stood back to let this person be served before continuing their conversation. It is true that we do not do any advertising sales by telephone and the agent was only aloud to do a personal visit, it is also true that the agent was going on holiday the next day.

We do not believe that the advertising contract was shoved under her nose as she puts it, and signed knowing there was a cooling off period so she would cancel it straight away. Because this is a business to business advertising contact and not a financial agreement the so called 'cooling off period' does not apply. Clearly the lady did not read the advertising contract, had she done so she would have seen that it was not subject to cancellation.

We cannot comment on what the Police told her because we cannot ascertain who she actually spoke to, but clearly the Officer did not have the knowledge of business agreements and we do not know what the Officer was told. The lady said she received an invoice, incorrect, this was an advertisement proof, which contained the advertisement showing the copy that was given to the agent by her.

Finally it would seem the report was posted on this site on the 22nd August and we did not receive any correspondence from the lady until the 25th August, so it would appear that the lady had made up her mind before allowing us to look at the allegations. One final point is that this advertising contract was cancelled because of something we as a company were not happy with which had nothing to do with her allegations.
