We bought a Suburu Legacy Outback (1999) from these folks. We lost a business a few years back, had to file bankruptcy and so our credit was not so good and that is how we eneded up there.

The car's check engine light was on. The windshield was cracked along the bottom, there was body work done to it that was very obvious - but other than that some minor dings and dents. According to Edmunds.com , the car was in "Average" condition and appraisal below.

After financing, we ended up with an almost 10,000 debt for a $2,000 car. The car drove OK but the check engine light was on so it would not DEQ. One day the dealership sent a "DEQ" mechanic to my job to get the car - to fix the check-engine light and have it DEQ'd.

When they returned 2.5 hrs later, they called from the parking lot, said it would not DEQ, they had an emergency, my keys were on the floor, the DEQ money was hanging out the ashtray, car unlocked and they were long gone. 10 minutes later "DEQ" Don called me at my desk and told me I had "clutch" problems. I did NOT have clutch problems when I drove the car to work.

When I got in my car to go home, I could still smell it burning and barely made it home including almost getting hit by other cars when trying to go on a green light. The number they called from was 5033965152 - Michelle Turner - she was driving. We called Metro Motors when we got home, my husband Otto talked to someone there and they said they would repair the clutch.

The next day we called to see when they could do that, and they said it was not their responsibility and the most they would do
would be to charge us wholesale price. So now we are into a $256.00 a month car payment, full coverage insurance and with an undrivable car. We took the car to the lot, asked to speak with management - he wanted to get us into another car AND give us an estimate on the repair the the clutch that THEY broke.

After over a week, he was still trying to get us into another car - did not want to tie up his shop fixing the clutch - and we just asked for the estimate on the clutch and who was going to pay for it. He said he would ONLY charge us $375.00 to fix the clutch THEY broke. We had to pay the money UP FRONT or they would not touch it.

Keep n mind, THEY broke the clutch.

Sunday the car was ready to be picked up. We drove up there and the first thing we saw ws the driver's side mirror busted and completely hanging off the car. There was a fresh new dent in the right hand fender with white paint still showing. The windsheild was now cracked all the way to the top, not just along the bottom as it was when we bougth it.

I was angry and marched in there and called them and was not pleasant to them at all.  I told them they needed to fix the car. They said some lady had driven by, hit the car and they had been "kind" enough to get the information for us to turn in on our insurance and when I was hostile about that whole deal,

Titan (THE MANAGER) demanded I leave his property.

In addition, they burned up $30.00 worth of gas I had.  This is not a good way to do business.

Please investigate them. Honest hard working people fall on hard times and folks like these prey on us. There must be something you can do. We have spent every dime we have on that car.

Thank you

Rebecca

Not that Uncommon

Oregon forces dealerships to repair check engine lights and pass DEQ before they can finalize the sale, so that was not that big of a deal.

Yes...I'd be upset too...damned upset. If the clutch showed absolutely no excessive wear when you had it, could the problems be all connected...like some kid who works there driving crazy? What do they say when you confronted them? What does your insurance company say? I would file a claim with your insurance company and tell them exactly the condition before you took it in and afterward. It is up to YOUR insurance company to fight it out with them. That's why you pay those high rates!

We knew we would have to pay high interest because we just got out of bankruptcy.  The thing is, we bought the car "as is" and since they broke the clutch, the car is no lonnger "as is".  In addition, the drivers side mirror was rippid off, the windshield was cracked all the way to the top and it was side swiped and dented and all of this happened when we it was in their shop to get the clutch repair which we did not break and which we had to pay for.  This is why I am angry.

You agreed to pay $10K for a $2K car that had the check engine light on. Not smart but very funny.

Cutting To The Chase

AUTHOR: Jim - (USA)

Did you read the paperwork BEFORE you signed it? If so, then you would have seen the cost of the car plus interest and if you did not like those figures then you don't sign the contract and you simply don't buy it! You aren't their slaves! You are the customer! If you don't like the deal you move on! You then say the check engine light was on, the windshield was broken and their was evidence of poor quality body work. Again...with such OBVIOUS PROBLEMS why did you go thru with the transaction? Did the car come with a warranty? If not, then you bought it "AS IS" problems and all and they aren't going to fix it for free.
