I would like to share my experience of when I attended SEC Training Center during the summer of 2007. me, being in need of a job, saw an ad in the local newspaper here in Mississippi about training for a exciting career in trucking from SEC and "classes start every Monday" (didn't do any research on SEC). i've always had in interest in trucking so I gave them a call. They told me to go to the Win Job Center and apply for the WIA grant. I do that and they tell me that I will have a hotel room and a bus ticket to and from school every week (5 weeks which should be a red flag for ANYONE reading this. Most schools are 3 weeks but some are 4 weeks). I start class the first week of July 2007 and when it comes to me obtaining my license, I failed the test on the yard the first week of August 2007 on a Thursday. That Friday morning when it's time for us to catch the bus, the owner of the school tells me to try to catch a ride with someone coming from the Delta (The guy he wanted me to ride with stayed 40 minutes away and was leaving home at 4:30am to come to the school). I was like "the WIA grant paid for the TICKET and the hotel room" but there was no budging. So I ended up not getting my CDL from SEC and the WIA grant was wasted because it is a one-time only grant (one lady had been in school for 2-3 months (admittedly because she couldn't pass the yard test) and had to get up early to catch someone who didn't attend SEC to Jackson after they pulled her ticket).

I have told my story to other truck driving schools that I have applied at (including 3 here in Mississippi) and they all gave the same face when I said SEC. One individual got mad because they knew SEC is running a "scam school" in getting individuals to attend their truck driving school via WIA grant and not caring if they get their CDL or not (on average you could have 5-6 people to start class each week but only 2-3 end up getting their CDL every week. There are a lot of people just sitting around at the school not getting a chance to test their test for their CDL). If you are averaging about 30-40 people a month paying $3600 I don't have to tell you there's a lot of money being made in Flowood and not a lot of results coming from SEC.

I am writing this complaint to not only let people know of my experience but to warn them to STAY AWAY from this school. If you are interested in a trucking career (especially if you are from Mississippi or the northern Louisiana area) and know people who drive trucks, just ask them about SEC and watch their reaction. When truck driver at the Flying J truck stop in Jackson tell you that you made a big mistake because no one will hire outside of Swift, you've screwed yourself. Something NEEDS to be done about SEC getting people to apply for GOVERNMENT money (WIA grants) and then breaking their contract by not paying for a bus ticket. Trucking companies are not paying them anymore to train their truckers so a MAJORITY of their income comes from WIA grants
