Initially, I went in for an alternator and alternator belt. I were told it would be $309 plus $39 for a tow. They said that they would have to do a diagnostic to determine the actual problem. I ok'd it. The next day called me and told me my car was ready, BUT , they had to put in a new battery, replace two more belts, and the new price were $509. I paid the additional money. When they brought the car out of the repair area I got in and attempted to leave. The car wouldn't start. I raised the hood and saw that there were two belts just dangling on pulleys. Not even on. I went back in and told the clerk who serviced me,(Robert Calvario). He notified the mechanic who did the work and they took it back into the shop. The store was about to close, so he (Robert) told me he would call me tomorrow. they called. When I got there I were told that I needed a harmonic balance and a crankshaft pulley. Another $204. I asked them why didn't they say that in the first place when they did the diagnostic. They said that it didn't show up then. (yeah right). Reluctantly I went ahead and ok'd the work. the next day, again they called me to pick up the car. I paid the money and drove away. Again the car stopped on me at a red light. I called home and had my daughter to come and give me a jump and drove home. once home, i looked under the hood and to my shock, the serpentine belt was not on. I called Pep Boys again and were told to get the car towed back. I did. They finally put on the belt and told me they wouldn't charge me for it. (how nice, since I already paid for it), but they charged me $47 for the tow. After having the car home for a couple of days, the "check engine" light started coming on. That never happened before. I had to get jumps every time I tried to start up. Well, I didn't go back to Pep Boys. Instead, I took it to a neighborhood mechanic who did a diagnostic and said that I needed a crank position sensor, ignition coil, and if i wanted heat, a heater acuator.  $550. I paid it. I've never had another problem again. I feel as if Pep Boys simply conned me out of $800 plus.

I had a similar situation at the Rand Road Arlington Heights location and I've dropped the story in Google Maps' complaints and reviews, Yelp and now this place. The story is typical of the car automotive industry frankly in my 47 years and 10 cars in that time, 4 of them new.

I'm just commenting for support that yes indeed they pull bait and switch repairs all the time apparently since I'm seeing them now all over the net and getting responses from people after tweeting out some things to my 5000 plus followers there. Their management at that store I was at was good one weekend then they ripped me off which is why I'm really mad, then they jag when I came back with the same problem tried intimidating me with his height and when I wouldn't flinch he was just a jag.

He lied about being the top manager of the store and I'm going all the way to the CEO> Good luck and it's too bad companies can be ruined by a handful of bad employees and this place IN AH has complaints going back to 2002 that I can see, dozens and dozens.

Good Luck..
