This dishwasher only lasted 2-3 weeks, and the display went bad. Now the on/off switch and other lights for controls do not work.
When I called Amana, they say that the dishwasher was manufactured prior to the 1 year warranty, and without a receipt they will not honor the warranty. This makes their product have a life of 2-3 weeks.

Search TipsBottom line, when you buy supposedly new items from sources like Craigslist and Ebay, you shouldn't expect a manufacturer's warranty. A quick perusal of the actual warranty paperwork should bear this out.

I requested Amana to send a service technician to come and confirm it was new. I am confident if
Amana sent a technician out, they would have confirmed it was new, and the installed who picked up the machine and installed, confirmed that the machine had not been used.
I would not have requested Amana to send the technician out, and agree to pay the $125 for the visit, if it were old / used if I was not that confident. Amana refused to stand behind a new machine on a technicality that they found. I maintain the machine was new when installed 2-3 weeks before it went back.
I have now researched the problem and find this is a common problem with the Amana machine, which probably requires a $2 fuse to be replaced in the door. U-Tube gives directions, but now I no longer have the dishwasher.
The issue is Amana's machine lasted 2-3 weeks before breaking down. When Amana was contacted, they searched and found a technical reason not to honor the warranty. They refused to listen to a reasonable compromise, and refused to agree to cover the machine if the technician would confirm the machine had less than 30 days of useage. Before your rebuttal, Amana would be sending their own technician, as I have no technician.
The Rip of was not from the person on Craigslist selling the machine, but the rip off was the fact that Amana was not willing to honor a warranty on a technical grounding, and were not willing to listen to a reasonable solution that I tried to propose to the supervisors.
Amana at the time of warranty coverage request became a rigid and difficult organization to work with, instead of working with their customers.
Lastly, if Amana was a customer focused organization, they would have come up with a satisfactory compromise earlier (when they mailed me a form to take extended warranty out. I would have taken the warranty out on the machine, if I still owned it, but I had already replaced the machine by then.
I noticed, if I did not put my complaint to the public, I would not have been offered any compromise by Amana. The compromise was not satisfactory to me, but could be considered reasonable, if it had come earlier.
As the machine was replaced by me, and there is no receipts, etc, there is no compromise that Amana can now offer after 2+ months of these complaints, and the very cleverly worded replies by their Attorneys.

No receipt, no service.........

The manufacturer must have guidelines and limitations on their warranties to minimize fraud.
YOU think they should just take your word for it and give you free service.
I sure hope my check from the manufacturer gets here....it was, of course, promised if I wrote this. ;)
They keep me on retainer to write these little replies......BTW, get a life.
You can rant all you like but it was a risk you chose to take and it bit you. No ripoff.
Of course there are the typical "you work for them" comments when you don't agree with a response.

The item may have been bought from a non authorized dealer, but was bought new. The dishwasher was in a sealed container. The installer could have verified it, as he did pick it up and install it.
Last fact - there will be no more discussions from me on this topic. Whirlpool / Amana have smart lawyers, I am only the consumer.
I am unable to state anymore facts. Whirlpool / Amana took to long to respond / react, and now the cure searched for / requested is no longer sought. I am only notifying the other consumers of Whirlpool / Amana to proceed with greater caution, and Whirlpool / Amana will back out of honoring their warranty when they can on any technicality they can find.

The fact is the dishwasher was purchased new, and in a sealed packaging.
The fact is that the dishwasher lasted only a few days, and broke down.
The fact, I contacted Amana and reported it immediately to customer service and warranty dept that just brushed be off.
The fact I reported the incident to Rip OFF and BBB
The fact after over 1 monthly of waiting, I received an option to purchase an extended warranty for the dishwasher.
The fact, this dishwasher has been discarded, and replaced with a non Whirlpool / Amana dishwasher.
The fact, due to Whirlpool / Amana arragont attitude, and not willing to send a service tech to check if the dishwasher had been used for more than 2-3 weeks, I have boycotted Whirlpool / Amana products and choose to publicly notify other consumers of the tactics that have been implemented on my.
Please note, no apology letter has been received. Whirlpool / Amana should be more considerate of their customers in economic slows, to build loyalty, instead of using such tactics.
