I went to Cambrian to rent an apartment short term. The day I signed my contract I found out I had to move to my home state for personal reason. I went and spoke with the manager and explained my situation. Her name is Rene. I asked for a refund of my money that I had paid and to just get out of the lease because I hadn't even moved in yet. She told me that she couldn't do that but that she would apply the money I had paid which was around $1400 to the lease break and I could be on my way. I told her I was leaving that day and that I would try and have someone I worked with bring by the keys. She told me that as long as someone brought the keys to them before the first 30 days was up I wouldn't have any problems. We spoke about this for a while and finally I agreed to this situation. At least I didn't have to pay any more I thought.

Well I couldn't get anyone to bring by the keys so two weeks later I flew to Denver to bring back the keys. I did a walk through with the maintenance person and he was surprised how clean it was, and I explained I never lived there. He understood. When I went back to the office I asked if there was anything else I needed to sign or do and I was informed that no there was nothing else I had to do, the lease was just voided because I never moved in and paid my fee. This happened in June 2012

Months later in November I all the sudden get a call from a credit debt collector saying I owed $1450 lease break fee. I was blown away! I could not believe that I was getting this call and just assumed that there was a mistake. So I called the Cambrian Apartments to speak with Rene the manager.

She informed me that I owed it. She denied ever saying that the money I had paid would be put towards my lease break. All said an done I had to pay almost $3000 when if I would have just paid my lease out I would have paid around $2500. I would have never paid a lease break fee because it was going to cost me more that it would have cost me to just pay my lease out in full. The logic of me paying a lease break fee thus costing me more than It would have cost me to just pay my lease out is crazy. I tried to explain this to Rene and she still denied what she said. Yes I am at fault for not getting it in writing. But what I was told was that because I wasn't moving in that my contract was just going to be canceled out. Therefore there was no contract at all.

This is completely ridiculous of this apartment complex and manager. I would recommend that anyone considering living here, to look somewhere else. Don't even give them a chance. They will screw you over any chance they get.
