Canada Purple Shield - Family Side , PurpleShield finalneedsplanning.ca 1-877-943-4447 Assurant Life of Canada 12 Parr Blvd., Unit 3 Bolton ON They took money from both my parents for years after they scammed them with their misleading promotional mail that looks like it's from the government or Canada Post. My parents and many other elderly people don't look closely at their mail, so when they see something that looks almost identical to something from the Government of Canada  or with the actual Canada Post logo with tiny words "delivered by" in front of it. If their questionable customer acquisition practices weren't bad enough, when I found out about these plans my parents' had when my father passed away, we tried to collect on them and they said we weren't eligible to collect anything because the person who had been paying had passed away prematurely and we did not contact the insurance company within an allotted period of time. So we got NOTHING for my father's funeral expenses! My siblings and I didn't even know about these plans being in place until way after he passed away. But ridiculous customer service at Purple Shield too. Didn't seem to care at all about my concerns. I would NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE to use Canada Purple Shield! And their CONSTANT unsolicited mailings are a painful reminder of a difficult and trying time in my family's life. Calgary Alberta

They took money from both my parents for years after they scammed them with their misleading promotional mail that looks like it's from the government or Canada Post. My parents and many other elderly people don't look closely at their mail, so when they see something that looks almost identical to something from the Government of Canada (ie. brown envelope with black Canada flag in left corner) or with the actual Canada Post logo with tiny words "delivered by" in front of it. Their mail always has some urgent statement on it asking you to act fast before it's too late!! Anyway, they tricked my parents and who knows how many others out there. [continued below]....

..... So we got NOTHING for my father's funeral expenses! My siblings and I didn't even know about these plans being in place until way after he passed away. Too far past the date to be able to take advantage of the insurance coverage. My entire family was very upset about this whole matter and came together to pay for the funeral expenses, so it worked out alright that way.

Further to the Unwarranted Rant

AUTHOR: Tim - ()

OK, so the person paying STOPPED paying. Well, duh, try making a claim on your burnt down home after you stopped paying premiums to your insurance company. Try making a claim on a car accident after you stopped making payments to the insurance company.

Regardless of how many payments or how long you were paying, no insurance company in Canada will pay out a death benefit after the insured STOPPED making payments.

If the son/daughter who painfully ranted about Canada Purple Shield on this website was in any way responsible , they would have checked into his/her parents final arrangements long before anything happened. What do they think, the magic government will do everything for them?

You and you alone are responsible for your funeral expenses. If you haven't done anything about it yet, that speaks volumes about how much you care for YOUR family.

Deal with it now before something happens to you.

Canada Purple Shield has tens of thousands of satisfied families. Every once in a while situations will crop up like this all because someone in the family STOPPED their payments and then a family member will have the nerve to bellyache about the company and blame them. Duh. Why didn't YOU look into YOUR parents final arrangements to PREVENT such a situation from happening.

The whole gist of this person's unwarranted rant hinges on his/her parents who STOPPED making payments. To me, it sounds like someone in that family was irresponsible.

C'est la vie.

Don't believe everything you read on the internet. This man who ranted and ragged on a credible 51 year old company has obviously not included all pertinent information. Also, this website called Ripoff Report should be disabled as they will obviously print whatever anybody says about anything without investigating at all.
