The early morning of Wednesday, May 14, 2014, I received a call from my daughter stating she was stranded in San Francisco (it was just after midnight). I went online and found that the above motel had rooms available. I booked a room for her to stay in and called my daughter letting her know where to go. She began walking to the motel. I then called the motel to alert them that she was stranded and that I just booked a room. I spoke to Mr. Thai.
Mr. Thai stated that since my daughter didn't have my credit/debit card in hand, she could not stay in their motel, there were no acceptions because it's against policy, and that he would cancel the reservation I just made. She only needed to stay for the night.
When my daughter arrived at the motel, Mr. Thai told her he just spoke to her mother (me) on the phone and that she couldn't be a guest in the motel because she didn't have my card in her possession. She asked if he would take cash and he said "No, we don't take cash." She then asked if he would take a debit card because the friends she was with had their debit cards and again he said "No, we don't take debit cards." The card I used to book the room was a debit card. He then stated that he didn't have any rooms available anyway. Strange, because when I booked the room nothing was said about them not having any availability. After her interaction with Mr. Thai, my daughter and her friends left and ended up on the San Francisco streets for the remainder of the night.
Today, my husband was going over our checking account and noticed that on May 14, 2014, the motel still charged our account for $103.00. I called the motel and told them the details of my conversation and my daughter's interaction with Mr. Thai. The young man said he would let his manager know what occured. Shortly after I spoke to the motel staff member, another charge was made to our account for an additional $103.00 for a total now of $206.00.
I immediately called back furious demanding my money be put back into our account. The young man stated that Mr. Thai didn't cancel the reservation after turning my daughter away; instead he put her down as a "no show" and when that happens, they pay themselves for the inconvenience.
So now I really upset. She showed up, was turned down for all forms of payment, and told there were no rooms available, and I still was charged. Not once but twice!
Now they are stating that they will not address the charges until Monday! I am on disability and cannot afford to wait until Monday, but evidently my situation is unimportant to them. I demanded to speak to the manager. She would not come to the phone nor would she return my calls. I demanded they call Mr. Thai and they refused. Because of these charges, my card was denied at the gas pump. I am unable to go to the grocery store and feed my 7-month old, 3-year old, and 4-year old grandsons.
I cannot believe that a business would look my daughter in the eye and turn her away to sleep on the streets, and then turn around and charge me twice!!! Please, please help.
