I have seen so many complaints about this company. My experience with them has been just awful. Please do not use them. They seem to have a habit of connecting and disconnecting your service within a few days of signing up, so that they can get multiple deposits from you. It's ridiculous!

I started service with DPI Energy on August 4th, 2009, with a cash payment 'deposit' of $179.00, paid at an ACE Cash Express location in Dallas. I never received a bill from DPI in the mail, but I did pay an invoice online on August 21st, 2009, in the amount of $271.79.

On September 17th, DPI disconnected my service, saying I had called and requested disconnection or switching of my service to another company, which was not true. Oncor immediately restored the service and DPI set up a new account for me. This was totally their error but I ended up paying an additional 'deposit' of $129.00 to re-start service on September 18, 2009. In approximately a 6 week period, I paid DPI Energy $579.79.

My apartment complex has now received a bill from TXU stating that I owe for electric service from August 5, 2009 to September 17, 2009 in the amount of $217.00. I spoke with a rep from DPI who was not helpful. I requested copies of my paid August and September invoices to prove that I paid for service in those months, and the rep refused to send me a copy of these paid invoices, saying that because the old account number is inactive (their fault!!!), they cannot send copies. The rep said that they would verify via phone that August/September invoices were paid, however, I am required to provide written proof to my apartments.

I reported these jokers to the BBB and received a response to my complaint. They refused to admit they made a mistake, but they did credit my current account in the amount of $245.00. Unfortunately, I still have to pay the $217.00 to TXU for the dates that DPI screwed me over and show that I did not have any service.

So, for a 6 week period, my electricity for a small 2-bedroom apartment cost me almost $800.00.

I'm contacting the Attorney General also in regards to this company. They shouldn't be able to get away with this.

You said "So, for a 6 week period, my electricity for a small 2-bedroom apartment cost me almost $800.00."

Did you maybe owe an old bill?  If not I would DEMAND that the electric company  come out and check your meter, and if that isnt it check the wiring of your apartment.  I rented a two bedroom apartment once where my first electric bill, for two weeks, was over $100. I called the electric company and demanded the meter and wiring be checked. They do that for free. Turned out the halls, exterior lights and laundry room were wired into my electric meter. (My landlord paid my electric bill until it was fixed the next month and kept me as a tenant for 4 years.)

I live in the frozen north and have a 2 story house. My electric bill (for 4 weeks) covering mid November to mid December was $67.64 and I thought that was outrageous.

$800.00 on a two bedroom apartment, in 6 weeks, in Texas. There is no way you used that much electric in 6 weeks.  It sounds like someone is illegally tapped into your electric meter.
