Helm did not write a readable estimate with a total price including new fence price + rock charge + fence removal =s total for the job!! 

Then they came and installed the side and rear fence in the wrong place!  Side clearly marked by surveior  stakes and rear had neighbor fences as guides.  Side fence in 8 1/2 inches and rear 4 inches into our property. 

Then rock charge a problem because they said they could not give an amount since not known until dug...we asked them for an idea and again they refused.  We advised them to move both fences!  They agreed to move since their formans fault but not until we signed a new change contract with an extra $600 for rock charge.  Total was written on change contract with $4300 original amt + $600 for rock charge - $1500 deposit =s $3400.

Forman AJ threw phone at his work truck and tools around when he found out he needed to move the fences causing my wife to vomit from stress that Helm caused!  They moved fences but then never replaced bad boards on fence as requested!

Then after they had 4 business days to look over change contract they wrote up a bill for another $200 for fence removal and treatened collection action if not paid in 7 days with full warrenty revoke!

They tried to get more and more money every step of the way and also threatened to not finish fence if we did not pay overpriced rock charges! 

The customer does not come first at Helm and they do not know how to write a proper estimate!

Helm I am not slandering your company everything written in this report is true!

No one ever told me Joe did not work there anymore you just sent hotheaded AJ!

No one at Helm offered to sell me the fence once it was installed INCORRECTLY-I told you to sell me the fence and I would get a qualified contractor to install since AJ could not handle the job or customer instructions!  You refused that suggestion!

Helms original contract was not written properly!  You had $4300 for red ceder which to anyone reading it would think that was the final price.  Then written in a tiny area away from the large $4300 you have $350 for fence removal-NO WHERE does it say $4300 + $350 = $4650 for the entire job!  The borough takes trash like that for FREE! 

25 years should have given you enough time to know what kind of soil/rocks in my area you will hit!  You refused to give me any range of amounts for this charge when asked up front.  You need to tell customers that it can be anywhere from $100 to $2000 for a rock charge...You only told me after you put the side fence and rear fence in the wrong places that you had a per hour rock charge.

ALSO YOU HAD FOUR BUSINESS DAYS TO REVIEW THE CHANGE CONTRACT FORM (you gave us)AND AMOUNTS WRITTEN ON IT BEFORE YOU CAME TO MOVE BOTH THE SIDE AND REAR FENCES AND FINISH THE REST OF THE JOB!    I had no idea that you would try to pull a fast one again (besides the rock charge) and try to add more money for a removal fee!

All the boards have not been replaced that YOU told us to check and ok. YOU told us YOU would replace any of the ones we did not like!

Further you have NEVER once said anything about AJ THROWING HIS PHONE AND OTHER TOOLS ON OUR PROPERTY AND CAUSING MY WIFE TO VOMIT BECAUSE OF THE STRESS! 

SHAME ON YOU PETE FOR SENDING HOTHEADED, INCOMPETANT AJ- anyone but AJ could see where the property stakes were on the side and anyone but AJ could see that the rear needed to go from neighbor fence post to the other neighbor fence post!

This is a true problem that exsists and HELM DOES NOT WANT TO RESOLVE IT-the look of the fence has nothing to do with their incompetence to install, over billing or inability to write up an understandable original contract!

All Helm has to do to resolve this issue is send a $300 check to me with a paid in full letter, since it is paid in full (change contract)!

My advise to consumers is to use anyone but Helm to install a fence!

First and foremost I want to say that Mr. Moore signed a contract for services to be performed and we fulfilled the contract and expect payment in full.  Mr. Moore has exaggerated the truth beyond recognition and has tried to find every excuse not
to pay the agreed upon amount on his contract. Mr. Moore then has complained to the BBB and is attempting to bully us into giving him an additional $300.00 off his bill to settle this dispute that doesnt really exist. Helm fencing will not give in to his ridiculous demands and expects payment in full. Helm Fencing went above and beyond to satisfy Mr. Moore and in the end he now has a beautiful fence that is properly installed and will last many, many years.

Mr. Moores first written complaint he has was that he requested Joe to be his foreman, but Joe was no longer employed by us at the time of his fence installation. Not once during the installation process did Mr. Moore say anything to Helm Fencing about having a different foreman on the job.  One of our other qualified foreman was more than capable of installing his fence, and Mr. Moore told Helm Fencing on the phone that he had no problems on the quality of our installation. He
actually told us how great the fence looks.  

The problems started a few hours into the fence installation. While digging the holes for his posts we informed the homeowner, like we always do when there is a issue, that the digging was really rocky and to properly install your fence you would incur a rock charge. That is when the trouble began. This rock charge is clearly noted on the front of every
one of our contracts and is also stated on the back of every contract. This charge is a common practice by fence companies to offset the additional labor needed to install the fence posts at the proper depth. I explained to Mr. Moore on the phone about the additional charges and I would work with him on these charges because we understand the additional man hours were going to add up fast.  At that time Mr. Moore told us we shouldnt charge him anything. He told us we make enough money on the job that he shouldnt have to account for any additional labor, regardless of the cost.  

At the time of installation there was no property line markers on the rear of the property so we had Mr. Moores wife approve where the fence was to be located so we could proceed with his fence installation. When Mr. Moore saw were the fence was installed he demanded we move it. When I explained that his wife gave us the approval Mr. Moore told us he does not
think his wife is capable of making that decision on her own. Foreseeing a possible problem Helm Fencing offered to sell him the fence and let him hire another contractor, which he declined.

After speaking with Mr. Moore on the phone again about the fence location and rock charge Helm Fencing agreed to move the fence at our expense, even though Mr. Moores wife told us where to install it. Helm fencing then agreed to cap the rock charge to the sum of $600, which was significantly less than our billable rate. At that point we were less worried about making a profit on his job and trying to just make the customer happy.  

Once the job was completed Mr. Moore reduced the amount of the contract by an additional $200.00, which was the amount of money that was charged for the removal and disposal of his existing fence and refused to pay it. This charge was already reduced from $350.00, since we did not remove and haul away the entire fence that was on the original contract. When speaking to Mr. Moore he actually refused to admit that we even removed and hauled away any of his old fence at all.  

Mr. Moore also had us replace dozens of good fence boards which had very small dimples from the head of the hammer that were from nailing the fence to the posts. Mr. Moore also had us replace fence boards which had small knots in them which are very common on a fence grade board. It was apparent to us that Mr. Moore was trying his hardest to find problems that did not exist so he could try to negotiate a cheaper price or just cost us more time and money.

Once again at Helm Fencings expense we replaced the good fence boards with different ones. Helm Fencing tries to stand by the customer is always right, but this time Mr. Moore was not. Helm Fencings payment policy is that the balance is due upon completion of the fence. There is still $200.00 due on his account. I sent him a letter that his wife wouldnt even admit that they received, which apparently they did because of their reply, that stated he has seven business days to pay the balance or it would be sent to collections. Helm Fencing has delayed sending this to collections giving him one last attempt to settle his debt of $200 and retract his complaint from the BBB, he has refused and even wants us to send him money.  

Mr. Moore has now made it his mission to slander us across the internet. I am sure as time goes on his story will be full of more lies and become even more exaggerated than it is already. Its a shame there is no way to stop people like this from falsely accusing businesses.  Helm Fencing has been in business for over 25 years and will continue to do business in good faith.  Helm Fencing has been in business for over 25 years and will continue to do business in good faith. We have an A+ rating on the BBB and have received the Super Service Award through Angies list.
