International Sports Club Charged me for a membership that I cancelled and refused to investigate!! West Lafayette, Indiana

I had a membership with International Sports Club while I was a student at Purdue University. When I was relocated for a job to Indianapolis, I paid off the balance of my membership in cash and cancelled. I started receiving collections for the balance of my account about a year ago.

When I attempted to get to the bottom of the situation about six months ago, I spoke to a woman in their business office that told me that she saw that I had brought the account to a zero balance but that the membership was never canceled and that she'd fix the error. A few days ago, I received a call from the same collections company that had contacted me a few months before I spoke to her.

I called again today to try to resolve the situation and calmly tried to have a conversation with their business office manager. He told me that I owed over $400 for not paying on my membership for over eight months. I asked how it was possible that they would continue to let me use a membership that I hadn't made a payment on for almost a year. I work in customer service and would never raise my voice, tell a customer to shut up to let me speak, or accuse them of playing games to try to get out of paying money that was owed. This man did all of those things to me and also refuse to investigate any of my claims. I will be seeking an attorney for help with this claim because the company does not want to admit their mistake and has treated me like some sort of criminal that is trying to scam them.
