I first became employed at this company in December 2009. Being an old school trucker of better than 30 plus years it was appparent they might not be on the up and up from day one however due to the rhetoric given as to the wonderful company they were I submitted to the lies and deciet. I applied at 0800 in the morning...before I could get home 15 minutes away they called and said they had already done a background check and mvr and all was good could I do a UA? Shocked and amazed I agreed and went across town ( 30 minute) and did a legal UA at a specialized collection sight. Before I could get across town to their office they had notified me that they had recieved confirmation I was negative for drugs and could I go out that afternoon. Excited to go to work in a new town so quickly I said yes.
I was told I would recieve a certain wage and that never occurred. I accepted anyway. Further, they got audited in 2010 December by the DOT FMCSA and were put on conditional authority. I continued to work for them in hopes to make things better for them. However, things kept getting progressively worse. I recieved DOT inspections due to their safety rating being 99 and 100 out of 100 (100 being the worst). It is important for all to know that throughout my employment history with this company I have NEVER met any safety representative of this company, I have only heard there was one.
Further, during my employment with this company I have been warned not to cross certain scales or be terminated...run only certain routes (routes in excess of 200 miles out of route) to avoid scales...required to haul loads in excess of legal wieght limits (81,000 and up...the last being 100,000 lbs gross through Colorado back into Kansas)...required to run in excess of HOS and then rework logs to match fuel times upon return or not get paid...and dodge any DOT and when you run extra runs to Denver for example it is all off the books. sometimes they even put a ghost driver as your co-driver to make your logs match. Additionally, there are some drivers that carry a seperate fuel card called a ghost card. All this information can be verified via phone txt or documentation.
Additionally, they require you as a driver to have your own cell phone and do not reimburse for phone calls concerning their business. They pay any or some reimburesable expenses once a month, i recently discovered if you run an extra run they retain the option to hold that run until you have a short week and pay you for it then. I still am somewhat confused about that.
When a driver resigns they generally black ball them and give them a bad reference and make it extremely difficult for them to resume employment elsewhere. I fear that now that I have resigned as of today. I am 58 years old and it is difficult for me to gain employment as it is. That is the reason I tolerated all the nonsense up to now. I cannot and will not continue to operate like this anymore. I could go on about all the illegal and dangerous activity that goes on here with total disregard for personal or public safety but there is simply not enough room. I have had stolen since my employment here a laptop computer, expensive GPS, Various tools, and numerous personal items which they claim is not recoverable via insurance.
I have various documents concerning wages promised through programs which were implemented and never got paid for. I can prove any and everything that I report here through documentations or witness accounts.
Reality is...I am not a well educated man and all I want to do is provide for my family and who is really to blame for my predicament? Myself. Sad but true as old as I am I simply wanted to provide for my family and turned my head. I allowed it.
So to all those who wish to better themselves as truckers....stay away from here!
