SEO Reputation Management at its best!

If you give the gift of Netflix, the recipient must give his own personal credit card information before your gift is processed, and at the termination of the gift, he will start to be charged unless he gives notice to terminate.
In short, you are a salesman for Netflix and they won't return your money even if you cancel even before the gift is used.

A Gift is a Gift is a Gift is a GIFT!

AUTHOR: malevolence - (United States of America)

Gift =  Paid for. Free of Charge. I Did the Work - Now You Enjoy! (unless you're giving paint by number kits!)  So what is the purpose of requiring a credit card, other than to take advantage of a person's busy life and hope if the customer chooses not to continue their membership beyond the gift membership, Netflix will get the chance to 'sneak' a month's or two extra fees.

If they want to require a card after the gift membership is finished... I see no problem with that.  It would be fair and up front and actually require providing good service through out the gift membership so that the customer feels they have a reason to provide further payment for a service that will now go from a FREE GIFT to a CUSTOMER PAID MEMERBERSHIP.

I couldn't give a darn what kind of service this is called in the business world, in the real world this is called dishonest and just downright backasswards.  No purpose for requiring a credit card at the point of accepting a gift other than to take advantage of the customer.

If they're worried about being able to bill gift recipients for broken or late dvd's then stop offering gift cards without bold print, upfront requirements listed on, not the CARD---TOO LATE THEN!, but the internet pages and (constant) mailings offering these gift cards.  No more tiny print at the bottom/back of the page.

In my opinion, any gift that requires things that the gift buyer isn't sure the receiver has, or wants to share in order to use said gift shouldn't be on the list of any good gift ideas in the first place.... but that's a whole 'nother web page (Gift Ripoff Reports perhaps -- oh come on, we've all rolled our eyes after unwrapping from time to time thinking, what the hell were they thinking??)

Good luck with Netflix and getting some use out of a useless gift.

p.s.  I've just started with Netflix myself and have only had one broken disc (though many with playing problems)... but baby those things come through the mail with wings on.  If that stops... so will the pmnts from my credit card!  That's how you fight back ---when you're able, of course.

p.p.s.  One complaint if any Netflix decision makers are watching.... I thought the more you buy the better the deal.  Why are the prices for memberships beyond 3 at a time so damned expensive?  Come On!  Some of us have lots of people to please and like the movies coming one after another... so if we're willing to pay for extra movies, why should we be penalized?

For Your Convenience

AUTHOR: macgyver - (United States of America)

This comes under the heading "For Your Convenience". At least that is the intent. This is done with many "Starter Subscriptions", especially with newspapers and magazines. It is; however, so kind of you to inform the public of this convenient service.
