R L Carriers is a JOKE!  Shipped 60 some odd desktop computers and the driver couldn't get them loaded on his truck so he decided to manhandle the pallet until it fell apart!  After it fell apart he decided to THROW them on the the truck and damage them further.  After that was said and done he tosses the "broken pieces" to the side like no one knew.  Please watch the video at http://youtu.be/HcqB4Fng1T0 on YouTube searching for R+L Damage and you will see what these jokers are all about.  The nerve to say they didn't do anything wrong and not pay out.  Stay FAR away from them.

Good Job

AUTHOR: Joe Veinot - (USA)

If I was R&L Carriers, I'd give you a big discount.

It's hard to find honest and super guys like you that will vigorously defend and attack others with little incentive.

You are a true superman in the fight against stupidity.

Good luck with your fight against this video.

Venoit needs to learn how to read and comprehend!

AUTHOR: Southern Chemical and Equipment LLC - (USA)

First of all, sheer stupidity makes me angry.

Therefore, you are the cause of my anger.

You better learn how to read and comprehend before coming after me.

I didn't attack anyone. I simply called stupidity where I saw it (as a former expedited/LTL ownere operator truck driver).

No freight company deserves praise - it's a tough business!!  So for you to attack and praise them for "a dozen" shipments like the hand of God carries their cargo is the reason it gives you away.

How do you know that trucking is a tough business? Is this first hand experience or are you just going by what you have heard?

Set-up?  Really?  The guy is just mad at how R&L handled this freight shipment.  By suggesting this company has perpetrated a set-up, I would be extremely mad.....and would warn you against liable.

In my many years and 1.5 million miles over the road as a truck driver, I have seen many set-ups against trucking companies for damage when in fact the items were packed improperly on purpose, or already damaged. Yes, it happens more than you think.

You are correct, the shipper could have done a better job of packing this.  Your recommendations were all good.  All your other nonsense is trivial and unimportant.  The driver accepted the shipment and from the looks of the video CAUSED most of the damage.

Yes, I know I am correct, from many years in the business. My other "nonsense" as you put it was to warn other truck drivers not to accept loads like this. It was education being provided. My freight contracts allowed for only 2 hrs at shipper or reciever, after that all time was $90/hr or part thereof. I would have sat there at $90 an hour watching those idiots rebuild a proper pallet. Not trivial or unimportant. A truckers time is valuable too. So don't be stupid and waste it!

And most freight damage is done by the shipper?  And how is this?  You and your "dozen" shipments of experience?!"

No, learn how to read. I clearly stated that most freight damage is CAUSED by the shipper, NOT "done by the shipper". Big difference. "Caused" by imprper packing and palletizing, use of broken pallets, use of inexperienced warehouse people, etc. My use of R&L was NOT while I was a truck driver owner operator, but when I was a warehouse manager for a large distribution company of wholesale pest control chemicals and supplies. You really shouldn't assume things.

"Veinot" please stop the nonsense..

AUTHOR: Southern Chemical and Equipment LLC - (USA)

No. I do not work for R&L, nor have I ever been affiliated with them in any way other than a customer.

So, PLEASE, stop with the nonsense. It amazes me how people are routinley so stupid that they automatically say someone works for a company if they defend it.

R&L is in my opinion, one of the highest performing LTL divisions in trucking.

I have used most of them.

Lets not confuse truckload freight with LTL freight.

Big difference.

The bottom line here is that the OP did not prepare their shipment properly.

I said that it was a setup, as old CPU's have little value these  days, so why would someone pay freight to ship them? They could obviously make more money filing a damage or loss claim than on the actual sale and transport.

The only mistake that truck driver had was that he had a good work ethic and tried to get the job done, even when he should have walked away.

If that was me, when I was in LTL, I would have stopped what I was doing and confronted the shipper on the broken pallet and unsuitable shipping preparation of the load.

I would have sat there on detention time (as per the broker contract) while this shipper properly prepared their shipment to be loaded safely, or I would have left and charged them another pickup fee to get it later.

Lets be clear here.

Freight damage is most often caused by the shipper than the carrier.

R&L

AUTHOR: Veinot - (United States of America)

I am suspicious of the rebuttal from the "other person".  It sounds like R&L trying to do damage control and then saying this was a set-up?!

I am glad someone had video proof of this.....I've also had a horrible experience with R&L and lost thousands in a denied claim.  Ultimately, my biggest revenge is the $90,000 and counting in bills I've since paid to my new LTL carrier.  After my trouble with them, my LTL shipping grew fivefold...

A truck agent once told me something about going around the carrier and filing directly with the insurance policy that the carrier uses.  They are all required to carry insurance and you can file directly against their policy.....but you have a time-limit.  I tried once to do the research on this, but its complicated.  But I guess the important thing to know is you can do this.  And this info was from an owner of a small LTL line that was telling me someone did it to him - and for me to do that against R&L.

Honestly, I don't know the particulars about this......but this will relate to all LTL carriers. The reality is the freight business is a rough and nasty thing.

Next time, build the pallet properly, and assist/supervise the loading

AUTHOR: Southern Chemical and Equipment LLC - (USA)

First let me tell you that I was a truck driver for several years, and I specialized in expedited and LTL freight, such as your load.

The only thing I can see that the driver did wrong was that he should have rejected your load altogether for being improperly palletized.

I would have rejected your load altogether.

Do you really think that shrink wrap is a suitable material to secure 60 loose cpu's on a pallet?

If so, you are obviously stupid.

At very least, those computers should have been bound together with banding and carboard corners, again, at the very least!

Realistically, they should have been packed in a wooden crate or a corrogated gaylord, with a lid.

I wouldn't pay your claim either, as you did not pack it properly, and you did not assist the driver in getting it loaded, or at least supervise.

This looks like a setup to me. You position the pallet right under a camera, you record the whole thing, but no one intervenes during this process?

FYI...I have used R&L carriers on dozens of occasions and have never had a problem. In my opinion, their service was the best I had ever seen. They are true pros, and that is the work ethic this driver demonstrated by attempting to load your shipment even though it was obviously on a broken/defective pallet, and was not secured properly.

You are just too stupid to live.
