From my understanding... (Radio Shack employee)

I'm having a hard time understanding exactly what happened. You said you received a text from the phone company saying that you were put on the correct plan, then a week later, you were told you weren't put on that plan? That seems like a problem with the phone provider. If this is the ATT GoPhone, it may be due to a change in their GoPhone plans, which has happened somewhat recently (in the last few months) where the "Pick Your Plan" option is gone and they've moved on to only unlimited and pay-per-minute rates.
I'm assuming that we're talking about ATT's prepaid, since Virgin Mobile, T-Mobile's prepaid, Boost Mobile, Tracfone, and Net10 do not offer night and weekend plans on their prepaid.
While I agree that the employee's attitude was uncalled for, I can't see how he would be confused. That's not saying that he should call you a liar, which is never the right option, but I'd have to think he was flustered.
Although it isn't carried by Radio Shack, you may try Cricket, which actually gets service in Antioch, Illinois (according to Cricket's coverage map). They do offer a plan for $30 monthly that gives unlimited nationwide talk, unlimited long distance, unlimited nationwide text, and voicemail. However, if you do decide to go this route (if you haven't found another provider by now), they do charge for roaming (which they hope you do since it's really the only way Cricket makes money). If you stay in their coverage area, then it's a fantastic deal. If you leave their coverage area and use another provider's tower, they charge $0.25 per minute. That can be $45 more for just 3 hours of roaming in a month.
From your description, it sounds like there was a problem with ATT's GoPhone service, which was only compounded by the rude attitude of the Radio Shack employee. I would like to say that something like this would never happen again with another Radio Shack employee, but the fact of the matter is that sometimes a bad apple gets in with the rest of the bunch.
If for any reason you are in the greater Phoenix area in Arizona and you need help with electronics, please drop by. As much as it irks my manager, I'm more motivated by helping my customers than my paycheck (as cliche as that sounds). I guess it's because money isn't much of an issue with my family, but the reason I come to work is because I like the one-on-one relationships I can develop with my customers.
I do hope this problem has been resolved for you.
