We decided to lease panels from Sunnova. Revolve Solar installed the panels. It was a disaster from the get-go. First it took several weeks to install. Then once installed, no one informed us that the job was completed. They took down our fence (& left it down) and tracked mud up & down our driveway- no clean up. Since they never informed us they had completed the job, we waited weeks & they never returned, so we called them & they then notified us that the job was done. I then told them, if the job was complete, then they needed to return to clean up the mess & return the fencing to it's prior condition.

They did (several weeks later). They told us they would contact us at a later date when we were supposed to turn the panels "on"- several weeks later. Then they called, told us to turn them on. We flipped the switch but without further instructions, weren't sure what else to do. A month goes by & we think things are running properly & Sunnova calls to ask us to turn "on" our panels, we explained that we had. So another couple weeks goes by & we get another call telling us to turn them "on". We explained again, that we did, but they assured us they were not producing energy. We asked them to send out a tech support person then.

Several weeks later, someone came out & turned the panels "on" for us. When they initally installed the panels, they had removed several tree limbs to provide better visibility for our panels. Well low & behold, a branch from that same tree, falls directly onto the panel & crushes one of the corners. We call Sunnova & inform them of the broken panel, they assure us someone will come out & fix it. Meanwhile, we decide to sell our house. Revolve had assured us if we decided to sell, not a problem, the lease was transferrable or they would move them for us to our new home if the new buyers did not want the panels.

Well several buyers come through & they can see that the one panel is crushed- all ask about the broken panels & assure them that our lovely Sunnova will come & replace it. Months go by & no one comes. We call again. And again. And again. No one comes. Months go by & no one comes. Now we've got an offer on our house, the buyers keep asking about the broken panel, we keep calling Sunnova, no one comes. Then we get a $390 electric bill on top of our $190/month solar lease bill! WHAT? I paid almost $600 that month for electricity. We have lived in our home for 7 years & not once have I paid a power bill that high WITHOUT solar. I was infuriated.

I called Sunnova again, they assure me that someone will come to repair the panel & they can't determine yet if that is the reason for the high bill. I call PG&E. They tell me that we are in the wrong tier for solar & that our lovely solar company should have had us change our tier or else Sunnova should have done that on our behalf! So here we are, home in escrow & they JUST two days ago come & fix the broken panel. The buyer for our home were all about getting solar & were willing to accept our lease! Yay! So they call Sunnova to set up the transfer & guess what...? They receive terrible customer service, get a huge run-around about how to transfer & decide they don't want to work with Sunnova for the duration of our 25 year lease!

Can you blame them? They know it took at least 4 months to repair our broken panel because they saw it broken! So I call Sunnova to complain on the buyer's behalf & they assure me they will be able to "sweet talk" the future buyers into accepting the lease, as we are moving to a much smaller home with no yard to accommodate our ground mount solar panels. For the next two weeks I call Sunnova almost daily to find out what needs to be done now that the buyers dont want the lease. Every person says they need to speak to "so & so" and get back to me. Not once do I receive a call back. I keep calling.

Today they tell me I will need to pay for the panels outright (upwards of $40,000) and the newer owners will get to keep them for FREE! First of all, I signed a lease because I couldn't afford to buy the panels outright & still can't (that was only 6 months ago) OR ...are you ready for this- they will attach a lien to my house preventing me from selling it! I am furious! I don't have the $40,000 to pay them- I don't know what they are thinking! Now, I guess we get to hire an attorney! NEVER, NEVER, NEVER trust Revolve Solar or Sunnova- complete scam artists!

Sunnova makes it right

AUTHOR: Julie - ()

POSTED: Tuesday, November 04, 2014

After working with Sunnova & Revolve Solar to resolve our issues & get our panels moved before the close of escrow, it has become evidently clear that Revole Solar was at the root of all of our problems. They did not stand by anything they claimed. Sunnova (the leasing company) has been working with us to try & make the situation right- it is unfortunate that Revolve was our installers as I truly believe had we used another installer company, we would not have had to deal with all of these issues. Throughout this process I got in touch with Jonathan Simmons at Sunnova who turned out to be very helpful. I wish now that I could remove this Ripoff Report, or at the very least remove Sunnova from it. Sunnova has offered very kindly to make it right and we are very happy with the way it is getting resolved. We are very thankful that Sunnova pulled through for us & has rectified this situation, even though as it turns out, it was not their doing- Revolve was the company that made us empty promises. Sunnova was just the leasing company, but they have offered to help us by honoring what Revolve said they would do, but now refuses to follow through with.
