Folks:

Riddle me this, riddle me that! When is a company like a piece of playground equipment? When it's a Teter-totter! That's right, that company is Teter AE, with offices in Visalia, Fresno, & Bakersfield, all based in California.

They will post ads stating they are looking for structural engineers.  They will give you a phone interview. Then they will give you a personality test to take. You will go for an in-person interview.

You will get told that you will be invited for a second interview because they will tell you they have work. Then like a Teter-totter, they will suddenly claim they have no work. This is usually no problem when the firm has no work. But guess what, folks? When they get the work, they will deny you a second interview that they had promised you to begin with even though they told you that they wanted it.   Translation: gullibility appears to be a way of life for the Teter-totter. We believe the psychological test is being used to
make sure they get candidates that will drink the proverbial Kool-Aid, so to speak. Perhaps Teter-totter did because they were unemployed longer than six months. How ignorant Teter AE is of the employment environment we are in now. Even worse yet, Teter changed the job ad to request past work samples. Now why do you think they did this? It's real simple. Teter AE wants work samples so they can take details from them to use them on their jobs. For Teter AE, it's much cheaper to do this than to have their employees do the actual work. We wonder what their insurance carrier will think about this.   So typical! Teter-totter can't even obey their own rules and job ads! Besides, they are an unprofessional company based on their actions. When a company cancels interviews despite being told they are a good candidate, they are a bad company. They are a very unprofessional company, folks!

At Teter AE, they didn't invent job discrimination against the long-term unemployed and blacklist enablement, they just perpetrate it! Their hijinks have caught the attention of California State Senator Mike Allen. He's the author of a law banning discrimination against the long-term unemployed. What better way to get a law introduced and passed than to use the Structural Engineering community and
Teter-totter.

When it comes to reimbursement, they wanted all your gas receipts and mileage totals. Guess what, folks? They did not pay fully for it.  When it comes to mileage reimbursement, they pay below the IRS rate
of 55.5 cents per mile. One person received a check for $120 for his/her trip of 400 miles and $50 worth of gas. That means the mileage rate Teter pays is when the person contacted Mike Auchter about it, they received no return phone call. If personnel like Mike Auchter cannot explain something as simple as mileage reimbursement and how they came about it, how can they explain the design of a public school campus? The answer: they can't. We wouldn't be surprised if they couldn't do it right.

Teter is probably one of the dumber firms in the Central Valley and perhaps all of California. They failed to give a candidate a second interview they promised even though that candidate saved their clients $120 million during their career. Maybe this explains why the Taylor-Teter Group broke up. For most companies, this is a no-brain hire, even with 5 years of DSA experience. If you're the Teter-totter, it's a losing proposition because it seems like it would be better for the firm to ring up those hours on a project. If
Teter-totter can throw away $120 million in tax savings and tax breaks to hire the long-term unemployed, what makes clients think they can save money?

We have taken the liberty of alerting Teter's clients about this, including their contractors and owners. After all, if a project were costing them too much money, it would be prudent to let them know how
the Teter-totter hires employees, don't you think? Insurance companies will love getting copies of the emails as well.
