This is how the Westwood scam works. If you recall, they were pushy in regards to loans and had you fill out either FASFA or loan apps for private loans. If they carried the loan, you filed out APEX. This occured during the admission process before you even started a class. This was probably a confusing time as they like to keep the propective student distracted. Westwood charges you by semester and the costs can vary from $2k-$5k per semester depending on your worthless degree program. If you leave this fake college and disenroll before finishing the semester, you will still be billed for the complete semester. It's in one of those documents that they had you sign but didn't give you time to read. Westwood College (which is a joke) does not have your educational best interest at heart. They are more interested in you as a loan imbursement number and will treat you as such.

I give you credit and kudos for getting out when you did. Unfortunately, thousands of students did not see this scam for what it was and owe on average $55 thousand dollars for a degree that is not recognized.

Depending on your loan type, you have options. There are forbearance and deferment programs you may be eligible for. Note that if you opt to take this route, interest on the loans still accrues. That interest rate, if you are like the rest of us, is extremely high. It is not uncommon for a $25k loan on forbearance or deferment to balloon to over $40k. The other option you may have is to try and consolidate your loans through the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program. They offer several options that may help you in repayment of your student loans even if you are in default.
