Xinhua Infolink Ltd Company sent me a fake check Internet

I saw a job ad in my local newspaper for this company.I contacted the company and they informed me on what I would be doing.They told me I was going to be sent a check.I was to take that check and cash it at my bank.I was to get my part of the money from that check and transfer the money to someone else via Western Union.I received the check 3/30/2010.On the morning of 3/31/2010, I took the check and went to my bank. I tried to deposit the check into my account.Luckily my bank informed me that it was scam.I had no idea.I thought it was legit since it was an ad in the paper.
