Dear XXXX, Re: Your XXXX credit or debit card used on www.discountmugs.com We wanted to notify you of a security incident involving the www.discountmugs.com website, which is operated by BEL USA LLC. We have reason to believe that because you placed an order with us on this website or by phone between March 1,2013 and July 15, 2013 that your personal information may have been obtained by unauthorized third parties. Upon learning that the website server may have experienced unauthorized access, we immediately commenced an internal investigation and then retained an independent expert to investigate this incident. The independent investigation has now determined that unauthorized third parties did obtain access, which is why we are sending you this notice. The personal information that may have been obtained is your name, address, phone number and the credit card or debit card number noted above and the expiration date and CVV code for that card. Since we do not collect PINs for debit cards, this information was not accessed or obtained by these unauthorized third parties. In addition to our investigation, at the same time we began implementing measures to address the situation and retained experts to guide us through our response. Those steps included identifying how personal information was put at risk and implementing changes to address that risk, including replacing the affected server. We also contacted federal law enforcement and will cooperate with their investigation. We deeply regret this unfortunate situation. As a valued customer, we would like to offer you a special one-time 20% Off Coupon if you place an order with us before October 31, 2013. Please enter your email address as the coupon code in the shopping cart when placing your order. Although we have taken the steps noted above, we recommend that you also take preventative measures. We encourage you to vigilantly monitor your credit and debit card account statements. Blaming it on the "bad guy" is not a resonable response.
How about taking responsibility for not have your software, servers and network "in compliance"???
I hardly believe that your 600 employees stand behind you... half of them are there for a paycheck and don't give a hoot about coorperate operations.
The bottom line is your company is/was running outdated software and were NOWHERE in compliance. The rest of us pay large fee to ensure compliance.
If you're willing to make this mistake on your coorperate infrasturcture then what can we expect from your products?
Poor service standards!
This mistake will hurt your business long term... I can promise you that.

Discountmugs deeply regrets any inconvenience this issue may have caused you.
The incident that occurred to our company is very unfortunate to all involved, from our management as well as to our 600 employees. In this day and age, as most of you are aware, the bad guys are very sophisticated. As a company you take your precautions, you monitor and upgrade your systems, and remain vigilant. I believe most of us, individuals and business owners, have run into some type of credit card theft over our lives. It is how we respond and react as a company that makes the difference.
Discountmugs.com / BEL USA, is a victim of this theft as may be a small percentage of our customers - including myself, I received my letter on Saturday. I purchased through the online shopping cart, confidently using my credit card, received my shirts done as per my order, never expecting there to be a possible issue- but always knowing when you do purchase online, anywhere online, there is that small possibility.
It is perfectly understandable that some of our customers would be angered by these events, which is why you see the letter we sent to that particular customer, posted by that individual. We share your anger. The security of our customers’ privacy and financial information is paramount, and we take any illegal conduct that seeks to threaten us or our customers, very seriously. After discovering the issue, we immediately took all necessary steps to protect our customers. We are continuing to consult with several industry experts to ensure this never occurs again.
All 600 of us at BEL / Discountmugs appreciate and value each and every one of our customers. We work hard to give you an enjoyable and stress free shopping experience, as well as a safe one. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to serving you again in the near future.
