I just received an e-mail from the subject company, alleging that my company has a problem with its credit rating that must be addressed immediately. Since I do not have a company, I becasme suspicious. The e-mail instructed me to open an attached file and respond to questions in it.

The attachment is a .zip file, and the zipped package is an .exe file. I did not proceed further to load that file, as it is likely a trojan or worse.

I also notice the e-mail was sent to approximately ten other addresses, all in alphabetic sequence starting with 'pa...@...'  to 'pb...@...'. Obviously ripped out of a longer list of userid's obtained somehow.

If I can do so safely, I will investigate what is in this package ... but on the surface this company is attempting to spread malware.

#1 UPDATE Employee

This is almost definitely a victim of a phishing scam

AUTHOR: Liz G - ()

POSTED: Monday, June 17, 2013

Recently, a spammer has sent out a large number of emails purporting to come from D&B (alert@dnb.com) that were illegitimate and alleged that a complaint requiring prompt action had been made against the recipient.  These emails contained the company's logo and contact information.  Dun & Bradstreet Credibility Corp. has no relation to these emails and our name and logo were being used illegitimately.

Because the spammer sent out so many emails, we posted an update on our website that includes ways you can check if the email was legitimate: http://blog.dandb.com/2013/02/19/customer-complaint-email-dnb/

D&B also posted a notice on their website: http://www.dnb.com/company/important-notice.html

Also worth noting, there was malware attached to the email that was sent out by the spammer, so if you did open the attachment, then you will want to work with your desktop support team to ensure no malware has been added to your computer.
