Received 12-1-2010 in a plain white envelope with no return address mailed in Canada a letter along with a check in the amount of $2,950.85  stating that I had won $100,000.00 and the check was to cover the processing fee and duty taxes.  The reported cashiers check was drawn on Bank One, Pheonix AZ and was signed by the Drawer: JP MOrgan Chase Bank, NA.  I was told that the check could not be cashed until I called Ms Cheryl Anerson at1-877-742-3440 to activate my claim.  Also mentioned was that I was not to discuss this matter nor cash the check until the claim had been processed.  Don't know why I am suspect that this is a scam but will list my first thoughts:

1. Letter mail in Canada

2. Company address in Arkansas

3. Bank in Arizona

4. Plain white envelope, no return address.

5. Asked not to discuss and deposit check until transaction finalized (probably meaning until they get some money from me.

Will have to check with the Telephone company and see if Bank One (no address on check) exists and what number if any is listed in the Phoenix Telephone directory.  Number listed on the check is 1-888-774-0757 which I'm sure is directed to some partner in crime along with that of Cheryl Anderson.

"Don't know why I am suspect that this is a scam but will list my first thoughts"

Here are a few reasons.  Winning $100K in a sweepstakes that you never entered doesn't happen in real life.  If it does, you would receive notice by registered mail and would not be required to pay anything.   This scam tries to get you to deposit the bogus check, then wire untraceable cash through Western Union or Moneygram to the scammers.   Only after they have run off with your cash do you find out the check was fake and you owe the bank money.

By the way,  Bank One was absorbed by J.P. Morgan Chase over 6 years ago. They no longer do business under the Bank One name.
