The disorganization of this event was a terrible disappointment to me, my band, and my family and friends. The place should have not reached capacity (because that can easily be controlled by proper event planning). My disabled mother did not even have a place to sit for half of the event, and was told the seats were "first come, first serve" by one of the reps. Don't send an email with an unlimited guest list if you are going to be holding the event in an extremely confined space!

$20 is not a cheap ticket, and my mother and her friends (as well as my band's friends and family) would have not planned a special night out if they knew they could not have proper seating together. My bassists' dad and little brother were not allowed back inside the event after using the restroom, even with ticket in hand....definitely NOT okay. Even the guy filming the red carpet commented to me about how unorganized things were and how he felt thrown into it and unaware of everything. He told me he was hired on the day of the event with no guidance as to how to handle the organization or  taping of the interviews.

The promised "judges" were not present, the red carpet interview was a complete joke (not even done
with a proper microphone, and there was music blaring in the background the whole time). When I asked "KING RYAN" where the judges were, he looked at me like I was nuts and said, "Oh, there aren't any. Just that Warner Bros Guy. Sorry". When I spoked to him, the "representative" didn't even realize the first song we performed was a Led Zeppelin cover song...He thought it was an original. Surely, any music rep from any label would be educated enough to know who one of the biggest bands of all time was. The representative was dressed very poorly, not really convincing me, my friends, band or family he was even an important person from the record label....Corporations like Warner Bros mostly likely have a dress code, and he was dressed EXTREMELY unprofessionally in cargo shorts and a dirty t-shirt.

The "rules" were bent for people "who sold more tickets" according to Angie and Ryan. Two acts were able to play for nearly 20 minutes (because of their ticket sales), and ironically were the winners.....which is very fishy in my book as well as in the opinion of many other performers. The fact there was an incentive to sell more tickets was not expressed and just goes to show this was nothing but a money hungry event. There weren't even any real judges to make a call on who would encore...So how was the judging done? Anyone in the entertainment industry knows that an event as this company was trying to put on needs at least 3 opinions (judges) to properly and fairly score the performers.

Several of the performers were absolutely humiliated by how rude the sound engineer was.....In example, I heard a girl sing without a backing track who was cut off by a music interlude during her chorus. The sound engineer absolutely refused a sound check to me, and rudely told my drummer that the sound check wasn't for us, it "was for him". The people backstage were also not too nice or fair... The first band was allowed to store their things backstage, but my guitarist was rudely told to keep our stuff away from backstage, that it was an absolutely "off limits" area. Hmmm.... special privileges once again to people who shelled out more money for this event.

Especially considering how strict and intense these introduction emails were, my band made an extra effort to be dressed accordingly, on time, and on point in performance. The way wewere treated, as well as the way several other performers were treated was absolutely appalling, considering the expensive tickets.

It's obvious that this event is a complete scam, designed to trick people who will sell a lot of tickets and make them a lot of money through ticket sales. Who knows what further scams Ishowcase and King Ryan Events plans for the winners of the competition.

I plan on contacting Warner Brothers through many different channels to let them know they are putting their reputation on the line by associating themselves with this event.

We were truly disappointed with our experience with this company, not really because of the fishy results, but because of the extremely unprofessional nature of the entire event. My band has truly taken this event as a lesson learned: Any event worth participating in won't require you to give them money to play - choose where you play very wisely. Do not be fooled by King Ryan Events or Ishowcase .... Keep on rock and rollin' and play for people who will appreciate you and give you and your friends and family the treatment you deserve as hard working performers.

My Experience Was Different

AUTHOR: JaxMusicMan - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, August 21, 2012

I was at this event in Jacksonville.  The artist I am affiliated with who participated in this event had a very different experience.  While there was a standing room only crowd, one can only assume that the event promoter did their job.  Putting people in the room is the whole reason upcoming musicians want to play at a showcase style event like this.

I believe the person who wrote the report went quite a bit overboard and had many facts completely backwards from what actually occurred.  Every performer signed a contract that was very detailed as to what was going to occur at the event.

I read this contract and everything that was promised was delivered by the event promoter.  No one was required to pay anything in advance.  Each performer was required to pre-sell tickets for the event which is standard operating procedure in the music business.  If you can't sell a few tickets to your local fans, why would you even think you could land a record contract in the first place?

We enjoyed the King Ryan staff, the venue at Latitude 30's staff, and the opportunity to play for a very receptive hometown crowd.  I hope this one bad apple out of the 22 acts that performed at this show will not deter others from participating in future events.  It is a great way to play at a live show, with a record label rep in attendance, in a fun atmosphere.
