I have been going to the same doctors for many years.  I have no complaints about the doctors and I have never had problems with billing issues in the past.  However, ever since they were bought up by Summit Medical Group about a year ago, I've had nothing but billing issues including being billed for office visits when they are fully covered by insurance with no co-payment, and being billed for co-payment amounts already paid (and I have a receipt from them to prove it).  Their billing office is totally non-responsive, and don't care.  They are threatening to turn my bill over to collections, and I am threatening them with a lawsuit if they do.  It will probably go to court because they appear to be too stupid to realize that they are in the wrong.

I really hate to leave the doctos who have been my primary care providers for many years.  But, if the billing issues do not get fixed, i may have to go elsewhere simply to avoid the stress of dealing with the idiots in their billing department.

Why bother?

Dear Greg,

I have had the problems "escalated", and have talked by telephone to people claiming to be managers to no avail.  I sent letters in January, February, and March of this year and those letters have been ignored.  And, yes, I know you've received them because I've called and asked and have been told that they were received.  The billing staff seem to be COMPLETELY unwilling to admit that they are in the wrong.

Today, I sent a letter by postal mail regarding my most recent bill.  I have enclosed copies of receipts, and my evidence of coverage showing that the most recent bill is wrong and that I do not owe you any money.   As stated in the letter, I don't know if your billing errors are due to incompetence, or deliberate malfeasance, but if you do not correct my account, I will consider legal action which may include filing suit, or filing complaints with Medicare or other government agencies.  I am fed up trying to deal politely with your billing department.

I do not see any benefit in emailing you privately and I do not see any value in trying to deal with yet another manager either through you, over the phone, or otherwise.  In my experience, no one at your company who is actually in a position to fix billing problems will listen.  If it requires a judge, or a government agency to set you right, then so be it.
