Daughter took her car in for an oil change and was told she needed a state inspection.  After inspection was done, she was told she needed front brakes replaced, rear brakes replaced, rear brake pressure cylinder replaced, and a brake fluid flush!  All for about $670.00!!!!

I called and talked to a person who told me her rear brake mechanism leak “was actually not that bad…only seeping, not gushing!” and it would probably be ok.  He told my daughter that her rear brakes should be changed, because if they were not changed at the same time as the front ones, they’d probably squeak!  I told him to go ahead and fail the inspection and that I would change the brakes for her.

After ordering parts (front discs, pads, etc,. and rear drums and shoes, etc.) I found the front brakes did need replacement, but the back brake shoes and all mechanisms were fine – AND there was absolutely NO leak at all coming from either left or right rear brake!  The rear shoe thickness was fine and with well over 5 mils of wear left on left on them!  We took pictures for proof.

This car only has about 36000 miles on it and it’s in overall outstanding condition.  This is probably the first time the brakes have ever been replaced.  Good catch by Tires Plus inspector; however, telling my daughter her back brakes needed replaceing, that her rear pressure sylinder needed replacing because it was leaking brake fluid, and that she needed a brake fluid system flush was not true at all! These people seem to be overly encouraged to up-sell their services to the point of deceiving the customer!

This is the SECOND time this particular business has lied to us and tried to oversell/upselling their services!  Honesty and integrity evidently are not attributes they espouse; deception and lies seem to be their modus operendi (MO).

We will not recommend this business to anyone!  We will not be going back in future.

Hello,

My name is Tom and I am with the Tires Plus corporate offices. I have read through your concerns and assure you that we take matters such as unnecessary recommendations  very seriously. If an issue like this occurs we like to get district management involved to re-inspect the car. This way we can determine if a mistake was made and what can be done to correct it. If you could please message us at social@bfrc.com with your above message and a phone number management can reach you at it would be greatly appreciated.

Best Regards,

Tom

How brake shops justify this

1st Rear brakes do so little of the cars braking it is common for the rear shoes to Glaze and loose effectivnes. For this reason it is recomended to replace rear brakes when replacing front to reduce the chances of unsafe brake imbalance in emegency situations.

2nd Techs are taught to rebuild and or replace the hydraulic cylinders in drum brakes at every shoe replacement service to prevent future failure. At this point we don't have a ripp off.

It becomes one when the service adviser or manager lies about why the replacements are recomended. Thats what happened to your daughter and you. Please replace the shoes to insure the safety of your loved ones.
