Up until a few weeks ago, I believed USAA best company in America. It is my understanding that USAA has relinquished the Eagle Points redemption process to a contract company. The contract company is a predator w/ shady business practices and USAA may or may not be complicit.

My wife & I have been accumulation Eagle Points for 4 years to go to London and take our granddaughter. We had 131,000 pts., which is earned, when you use your mastercard for $131,000.

1. The requirements had changed w/o notification. The last time I used EPs international travel was 35,000 pts w/ no substancilal cash from the customer. When I went to redeem my points, I discovered on line that international flights were now 50,000 pts and you had to pay cash for any tickets cost over $1000. I explained this to Eagle Points and were told, "The rules are the rules." When I complained, I was told, "You have the option of redeeming your points for $500 for every 50,000 pts. This benefits the EP contractor, not the loyal customer.

2. I was told that I could use 100,000 for two tickets and use the 31,000 left to purchase a pro-rated 3rd ticket for my granddaughter. I didn't quite have the required 30,000 pts to get the prorated 3rd ticket so I paid a $3000 bill early. When I called EPs & told them I now had the required 30,000 pts for the 3rd ticket, I was strongly told that the person I had talked to earlier was incorrect & that a prorated 3rd ticket was not possible.

3. I eventually had to pay full price for the 3rd ticket. My mastercard was charged $3300 for one full price ticket & the amount over $1000 on the other two. Do this simple math. For a year major airlines have been offering RT London tickets purchased in a 30 day window for around $1100 to 1200 dollars. I could have purchased them online for almost the same price. That means I got almost zero value for 100,000 pts.

4. Eagle points list each ticket at the maximum price $1400 to $1800. I do not believe that a company like USAA with their volume of tickets pays premium prices for each ticket. I suggest that the Eagle Points contractor pays a discounted ticket price to the airlines, charges the loyal customer full price, and pockets the difference, which makes the Eagle Points on an international flight valueless.

5. I have never found USAA to be a predator, until now. They may or may not be complicit in this theft?
