Woodforest National Bank is shady to say the least. The Federal Government has already had to intervene in the past. It is time once again to file complaints with your states. Don't assume the other guy is going to do it. Remember "Power is in Numbers". The more complaints that your states Banking Commission receive, the more likely the Federal Government will step in. It is easy to find the name and number of your states Banking Commission. Just Google "(your state name) banking commission". Our situation is as follows:

My wife, who was not my wife at the time opened an account with WoodForest National Bank approx. 4 years ago. I recently found out after I attempted to add her to my account. The reputable bank that I have an account with informed me that I could not add her due to the Woodforest National Bank filing a report with Check Systems. Check systems is an inter bank reporting agency. We then called WoodForest to inquire. We were told that she had an overdrafted account from 2010. I asked how much was the overdraft. It was 68.00 plus an overdraft fee. I had no problem paying that. Then the bank rep told us that there was a 5.00 per day fee added to that.

This is where I drew the line. They are trying to collect 292.52 on a 68.00 overdraft. I told them that was illegal. They told me that it wasn't illegal back in 2010. They also stated that the Government changed the law after that. My point to them was that I didn't mind paying the 68.00 plus the standard overdraft fee (that is reasonable) but absolutly would not pay a 5.00 a day fee. Obviously if the Federal Government stepped in then it was not right to begin with. It should not matter if it occured before that. They are refusing to budge except for the fact they stated "if you open another account we can reduce it 50.00"

I just laughed. We all know that legitimate banks do not operate this way. I for one am a person of principle and will stop at nothing to right a wrong. I will use everything thing at my disposal to make ripping people off not worth it. So I say to you, Do everything in your power to bring attention to this kind of company and bring them to their knees. To include the Banking Commision, the IRS, the Better Business Burea, and what ever other enitity that fits your particular situation. if anything, the investigations will make it not worth their time ripping people off. WoodForest is known for doing this. Again, Power is in numbers!

Typical...

AUTHOR: Robert - ()

POSTED: Tuesday, July 08, 2014

I am not surprised by your update.  Because it is pretty much Standard Operating Procedure that when a person has NOTHING to defend their position instead of going after the facts, they go after insignificant details, outright ignore items, and accuse the person of (gasp) working for the company.

Well sorry to burst your bubble but I have not now or ever have worked for ANY bank.

I also find it interesting how you seem to focus on a typo that really took away 4 cents from the amount you stated and somehow infering that destroys my entire post.   Okay if you want to play that game, let me see about your post.  Remember when you stated the following...

I will use everything thing at my disposal to make ripping people off not worth it.

- What exactly is "everything thing"?

Ummm..well there you have it because of that your entire post must be wrong.  Well it is, but not because of that.  So back to the REAL issues....

It is obvious you read my post, but you did not post the specific law you are accusing them of breaking.  I wonder why?  Perhaps it is because there is NO such law...and YOU know it.

Instead you are the one who posts ignorant comments such as "no other banks do this" when it comes to extended overdraft fees.  Well unlike you, I back up my statements.

Since I am sure you will somehow accuse me of hacking into the bank's site and posting false information let me just post one bank.  If you are really interestined the truth perhaps you will focus and look for others.  So take a look at US Bank you will see that they charge $25 per week after the 8th day.

You can even go to their site and look at the fee schedule yourself.

https://www.usbank.com/fastapp_pdf/41860_CPI_E.pdf

Well like others who claim to be "persistant" I am sure you will post here a few more times, probably thow out a few more generalities.    But you will eventually realize that you are in fact the one who is wrong.  Where instead of continuing to post here you will just "go away" never saying even a simple thank you.  So in advance..you are welcome.

By the way I truly do hope that your wife has learned how to manage her accounts.

Extended OD fee...

AUTHOR: Striderq - ()

POSTED: Tuesday, July 08, 2014

is indeed charge by a lot of banks. I would say by most banks. Just look at some of the reports here and see people complain abut them.

It's interesting that you claim to be a person of principle but refuse to pay a valid debt.

And to save you some time, NO I don't work for them.

Also, I guess you missed the part where I stated they are trying to collect 292.56. I guess your math is different than mine.

You are an ignorant person and obviously work for WoodForest. No, other banks do not do this. Your reputation precedes you. Well guess what. You just met the most persistent person out there. Enjoy the fight!

Not Illegal

AUTHOR: Robert - ()

POSTED: Tuesday, July 08, 2014

They are trying to collect 292.52 on a 68.00 overdraft. I told them that was illegal. They told me that it wasn't illegal back in 2010. They also stated that the Government changed the law after that. My point to
them was that I didn't mind paying the 68.00 plus the standard overdraft fee (that is reasonable) but absolutly would not pay a 5.00 a day fee

- You are incorrect.  The "laws" you are refering to had to do with Debit Cards and how a bank approves a debit before assessing an overdraft fee.  They gave the account holder the option to "opt-in" to this "Overdraft" protection.  If the account holder does not "opt-in" then any time they attempt to use their Debit Card at an ATM or Point of Sale and there is currently not enough available in the account it would be declined.  This does not apply to Checks or ACH transactions.  It also did NOT set any limits on the Overdraft or Extended overdraft(daily) fees.

Of course if you can post the SPECIFIC law you are refering to that specifically makes these fees illegal, I would be glad to see it.

In fact many banks still charge this "Extended" overdraft fee today, but how they charge it can vary.  For example some will charge a daily fee, some will charge a higher weekly fee.  Some give you 2-3 days, some may give you 4 or 5 days before this kicks in.  In fact look over your bank's fees, the odds are that your bank has this exact same fee currently you are saying is illegal.

The fact is that your wife had a $68.00 overdraft and FAILED to pay it back.  They LEGALLY(whether or not you agree) charged her additional fees because of this.   You said that you are also okay with paying the Overdraft fee.  Well even back in 2010 that averaged about $35 per occurance.   So if that $68 was from one overdraft you are at just over $100.

Now, of course you can continue to fight it, and perhaps if you keep after them they will eventually agree to less.  If they do consider yourself lucky and hope your wife has learned how to manage accounts a bit better in that 4 years since.

Oh and when you talk to the IRS about this, I really hope you post what they said.
