My experience with World Health Club has been incredibly frustrating. I had a feeling it was going to be like that when I signed a one year contract....

I signed a one year contract in January of 2010, paying $29 biweekly ($754/year). I informed the club manager at the Midnapore Calgary location that I would be moving to the United States of America sometime in 2010, and this manager informed me that there would be "no problem" cancelling my membership if I left the country.

I gave them my credit card #, and everyone was fine for the first month.

By carrying a high balance on my credit card, World Heath club began charging me $15 "NSF" fees for not having the funds available on my credit card. Customers who do not have credit cards are not charged these fees.

I stopped going to World Health Club 2 months after signing the membership agreement. I began travelling to the USA every week and started the process of moving.

I moved to the USA in July 2010.

The manager of Midnapore failed to tell me that they would charge me hundreds of dollars in cancellation fees. He straight out scammed me into signing the contract, leading me to believe that I could just cancel my contract.

I did not have the money to pay the ripoff "cancellation fee" so they continued to bill me biweekly membership + $15 NSF fees

I cancelled my credit card in October 2010, yet they continued to charge me $15 NSF fees.

In January 2011, I called them to finally cancel my membership. They posted a $25 Facilities maintenance fee to my account, and then tried to tell me that i had to give them 30 days cancellation notice.

They waived those fees, but it is my opinion that World Health Club Calgary writes their contracts that are completely unfair to the customer, and they fail to adequately explain their hidden fees that are designed to gouge and rip people off.

Total cost of 1 year membership: $815
Total Amount of "NSF"Fees Paid $210

Total Cost $1025

Amount charged to my credit card in January 2011 at cancellation - $408

Customer Transparency

AUTHOR: myjasper - (Canada)

POSTED: Monday, April 23, 2012

My experience was frustrating as well. The employee Miles who signed me up was not very clear about the contracts obligations nor did he mention anything about an outrageous $150 cancellation fee. I do understand the terms of the contract although I found little help when i moved from Calgary and was not able to sign the cancellation forms. If the employees would bother to explain such requirements before the contract has been validated these situations could be avoided. I remember asking the staff if I would be signed into a contract and he responded, "Nope, you'll be good to go." and signed me up for a year. Employees of the company NSF were also very unprofessional at their head office in Edmonton. All in all please be more clear with future customers. I also paid $212 in NSF fees. World Health should be more transparent. I feel as if I were scammed.

Membership Agreement

AUTHOR: World Health - (Canada)

POSTED: Thursday, February 17, 2011

Hello,

Like many fitness centres, and for that matter cell phones, car leases and cable, some of our memberships have term lengths for a certain number of payments to be made. This allows us to provide lower rates to those members who commit to longer terms. These memberships can be changed through various upgrades and downgrades to extend or increase access and even cancelling the agreement itself early with a very reasonable fee which is $150 on most memberships.

We maintain an A+ rating in every single one of our locations with the Better Business Bureau.  http://calgary.bbb.org/Find-Business-Reviews/ Based on the amounts you are referring to, we beleieve we have identified your case as one the Better Business Bureau has already reviewed and closed.  If, on the other hand, you do not beleive you have been presented with the appropriate options to cancel your membership prior to the term you agreed to, we encourage your follow up with us.

The General Manager of the club can provide more information on what changes can be made to a membership. The other terms and conditions of using the facilities are outlined in the agreement that is presented to everyone at the time of signing.   We would recommend contact Head Office to further assist you with your concerns. Customer Service can be reached at 1-866-278-4131, Option 1 for World Health then Option 2.

Kind Regards,

World Health
