This book was a disappointment. I bought it because it was referenced in an outstanding book by Lee Strobel entitled "The Case For Miracles" and I thought it was a bridge between real life and our miracle-working God. Instead, Aaron seems to have concluded that what we need is "centering prayer", "re-integration through memory and imagination" and the like while "swimming in God's Eternal Current." And all of this centered on a context of a New Liturgy. Religious-sounding psycho-babble.

The broken and defeated Christians we meet every day don't need liturgy. Liturgy does not impress God. This new-agey approach to spirituality is not freedom; it's bondage. His "practice-based faith" is not what I expected. I expected a powerful way to connect authentic Christian spirituality with real life. That is certainly what we need. But this book suggests the way to an enhanced faith is through ritual, liturgy, symbolism and the like. That's the offer, but none of these really build faith at all. If you really want your total life to be completely engaged with God's eternal purpose, this book will not help.

"Hi, I'm Aaron. I'm a liturgist, writer, and pastor currently living in NYC. After leading worship at Mars Hill Church (Grand Rapids, MI) and Willow Creek Church (Barrington, IL), I created A New Liturgy- a collection of modern liturgical worship recordings.

The Practice. In 2018, I  released a book about a practice-based faith called The Eternal Current: How a Practice-Based Faith Can Save Us from Drowning, and I'm continuing to create resources to help us all flesh it out."
