Foreword: One of the symptoms of corporate fascism has been described as "the erosion of the rights of the individual, when corporate rights are expanded, this expansion tramples the rights of the individual."

Perhaps, my latest email to theree senior exectives  at amazon would be self-explanatory...

TO:
- Dave Clark, SVP, Worldwide Operations and Customer Service at Amazon
- Jeffrey Helbling, Vice President
- Jeff Bezos, President

 [Dated: June 10, 2021]

Mr Clark,

The DeWalt Impact Driver Kit (DCF887D2) was falsely advertised on Amazon website as "returnable" at the time of purchase, a claim proven to be untrue.  [I paid about $240.00 including shipping and customs.]

Additionally, you've shipped me a defective unit, which simply won't work--the chuck won't retain the screw bit, and it falls out.

[I've since discovered that the defect is widespread among DeWalt impact drivers, and the fault should have been known to Amazon, judging by the scores of complaints that are posted on the Internet, including on Amazon's own website.]

As advised by various "customer service reps." including Spencer W. I have tried to return the defective item to Amazon Returns over the last week or so, but without success.

More than a dozen shipping and courier services including FedEx, UPS, Yamato Express, Sagawa, ECMS, Nippon Express, OCS, and Japan Post have all refused to ship the package.

I attached a screen shot of the package tracking summary to my previous note to SpencerW, which shows it was refused by the authorities at Kansai International Airport, Osaka, costing me about $96.00. [Source: EMS package tracking https://trackings.post.japanpost.jp]

Power tools with more than one battery cannot be shipped from Japan to the US, according to the postmaster at Japan Post. [The kit includes two batteries.]

Details of my communication with DHL, which probably operates own freight planes, were emailed to Spencer W on Monday.  [Amazon had refused to provide return authorization by DHL.]

It's unfathomable why one of the world's largest and seemingly mature companies would have to resort to deceptive sales practices, dumping defective products on its customers in foreign countries who have no way of returning them. It's unprofessional, immoral and must be illegal.

You've acted in bad faith and with malice. Shame on you!

I hereby demand a full refund by return.

[Should Amazon be interested to recover the defective tool, using own shipping agents, it would be available at my home address for the next 30 days, after which time it would be disposed of properly.]

The account of 30 pieces of silver, and Orwell’s 1984 beat you to it!

AUTHOR: Harry - (Japan)

POSTED: Sunday, June 13, 2021

"Judas Iscariot went to the Chief Priests, and asked: "What are you willing to give me if I hand him over to you?" So they counted out for him thirty silver coins." Mathew 26:15

Had I not read the account of "30 pieces of silver", and Orwell’s 1984, I would probably never have learned how empires or large corporations like Amazon operate: False advertising, deceptive business practices, expansion of corporation rights, erosion of individual rights, fake customer reviews, rent-a -troll...

Note also how the "rent-a-troll" agent is insulting the Japanese by using racist stereotyping, probably in an attempt to gain support and sympathy from like-minded readers: “Even though you are posting from Japan you appear to have a grasp of the English Language...”

In the interest of full disclosure, I’m a male Caucasian, and an expat living in Japan.

In my experience, no self-respecting, free-thinking, fair-minded individual would spend so much time and effort trying to discredit a critical and informative report written by a defrauded consumer in favor of a dishonest corporation(s), known for using false advertising and deceptive sales practices.

Interestingly, The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) settled its recent case against a marketer who used fake paid reviews to boost sales of its product on Amazon.

Cure Encapsulations paid AmazonVerifiedReviews.com to write and post fake reviews to maintain a high average Amazon rating of 4.3 out of 5 stars for the company's weight-loss supplement… [source news media]

So, who would possible defend a corporation like Amazon? Someone without moral restraints who's desperate for a quick buck, or the promise of financial gains, perhaps?

[Think about it for a moment! Can you too see right through the troll!]

For the benefit of other readers, I am posting the text of a complaint against Amazon, which I have just submitted to the federal authorities.

[This should serve as a solemn warning to the resident troll because he could potentially face criminal charges as a co-conspirator, if the federal authorities decide to prosecute Amazon again based on a cluster of complaints similar to mine.]

Here’s the text of my complaint, with a few more details added for the purpose of additional clarity.

Dear Sir/Madam:

I placed an online order for a "DeWalt Impact Driver Kit (DCF887D2)", relying on Amazon's "returnable" policy, which meant I could simply return the item if defective, falsely described, or not what I had expected.

Additionally, I conducted a cursory review of customer comments posted at Amazon website, noting that the Impact Driver had a dizzying number of five-star ratings, which I now believe them to be fake.

I paid $237.66 for the kit including the cost of shipping to Japan, where I live, as well as the estimated import duties.

Unfortunately, Amazon shipped me a defective unit--it didn't work because the chuck wouldn't retain the screw bit, and it fell out at each and every attempt.

I now know that the defect is common among the Dewalt impact drivers that have a quick-release chuck.

Having tried to initiate a return shipping, as I had done previously for other defective items, I realized the usual return option, prepaid return via DHL, had been withdrawn, or otherwise not available.

After several email exchanges, a senior "customer service representative", who introduced himself as Spencer W., finally confirmed Amazon Returns would refund the cost of return shipping once they had received the product. However, he failed to inform me that under Japanese laws the kit could not be shipped out of Japan because it carried more than one battery. The defective Dewalt driver kit contained two batteries.

More than a dozen shipping and courier services including FedEx, UPS, Yamato Express, Sagawa, ECMS, Nippon Express, OCS refused the return shipping

When Japan post attempted to ship the package, it was rejected by the authorities at Kansai International Airport, Osaka, costing me an additional $96.00.

I filed a formal complaint with Amazon, noting that it was unfathomable why one of the world's largest and seemingly mature companies would have to resort to false advertising and deceptive sales practices, dumping defective products on its customers in foreign countries who have no way of returning them. It's unprofessional, immoral and must be illegal.

Amazon has thus far refused to refund me for the losses I've incurred.

EoF.

Reading Comprehension

AUTHOR: Robert - (United States)

POSTED: Saturday, June 12, 2021

Even though you are posting from Japan you appear to have a grasp of the English Language, so perhaps you should work on Reading Comprehension..

You have not declared your interest/ affiliation with Amazon/ Dewalt. Your repeat comments are equally uninformed and untrue.
- Yes I did..Read the last few lines of my second comment. Oh and if for some reason you still can't understand.  The ONLY relation I have with them is as a Customer.

What you're doing now is stalking and harassment on the Internet. I leave it up to the Ripoff Report Editor to moderate future repeats.
- Umm...No...Telling someone that they could have done things to avoid this situation is NOT harassment or stalking.

In the interest of informing other readers, however, I'm attaching below a dozen URLs for a sample of comments from Amazon customers who’ve received defective Dewalt impact drivers with a quick release chuck. Many more complaints were still posted at the site, as of this morning.
- And EVERY ONE of those reviews is something YOU could have found BEFORE you bought the item. If you don't understand the point, I am sure other readers will.

Since you can't or won't understand the actual point, this is about as far as it can go, so good luck in your future purchases.  And don't worry I won't be updating this any further, so if you want to get in the last word..go right ahead.  But hopefully, you will at some point realize the point being made.

Stop trolling me!

AUTHOR: Harry - (Japan)

POSTED: Friday, June 11, 2021

You have not declared your interest/ affiliation with Amazon/ Dewalt. Your repeat comments are equally uninformed and untrue.

Why are you doing this? What is your motive for spending so much time repeating yourself, despite the clear explanations I’ve previously given?

Your "questions" have already been answered, but you keep repeating the same "oompa loompa". I suspect that you are a paid troll, so there would be no need to reply to your repetitive, nonsensical comments.

What you're doing now is stalking and harassment on the Internet. I leave it up to the Ripoff Report Editor to moderate future repeats.

In the interest of informing other readers, however, I'm attaching below a dozen URLs for a sample of comments from Amazon customers who’ve received defective Dewalt impact drivers with a quick release chuck. Many more complaints were still posted at the site, as of this morning.

As for shipping, I've submitted a full and clear picture of how Amazon operates. Amazon DOES keep track of every shipping regulation of every country, so that they could charge the customer upfront for shipping, handling and country-specific import duties, accordingly.

Contact Amazon for verification, if you’re still in doubt, or unable to digest the facts provided here about their shipping system.

Yes and the facts are this...

AUTHOR: Robert - (United States)

POSTED: Friday, June 11, 2021

For all of the videos, you found AFTER you bought the item were videos you could have found BEFORE you bought the item.

It is unreasonable for anyone to expect a company to scrub every possible Internet site for videos or comments about the quality of a product.

The item is returnable, but if you read the terms from Amazon you are still subject to local regulations, as with the reviews you can't expect Amazon to know every rule for every country for every type of item that may or may not be returned.

Oh and while I am sure you are going for the typical "Oh you must work for them"..sorry to burst your bubble but I am just a regular consumer with the exception of buying things off of Amazon(more than I would probably like to admit to) I have no relation with them.

The Knowledge of Facts

AUTHOR: Harry - (Japan)

POSTED: Thursday, June 10, 2021

The DCF887 like several other lines of Dewalt impact drivers has a quick release chuck, which is prone to failure. There are numerous videos posted on YouTube that shows the defect.

So, search again!

As for shipping, Amazon portal displays country-specific information depending on which country the customer logs on from. A buyer located in, say, Sweden, (or Japan) receives a different set of information (price, import duties, delivery, preferred currency ...) than a customer would in the US.

A fact clearly unknown to you!

Additionally, the portal specifies which products "cannot be delivered to Japan", are "returnable", or "non-returnable".

Yet another fact that you didn't know.

I bought the item relying on Amazon's "returnable" policy: Just return the product if defective, falsely described, or not what customer expected.

I'd be happy to reply to additional comments, but it would help other readers to know your interest/ affiliation with Amazon/ Dewalt, or otherwise.

Unrealistic and Wrong

AUTHOR: Robert - (United States)

POSTED: Thursday, June 10, 2021

It is interesting how you say that Amazon should have known about this defect when it is posted on Amazon's own website. I checked the reviews for this item and it took me back to 2019 to find a single review that describes your problem. You can't expect Amazon to look at every single review for every single product and see if there is anything wrong. If Amazon removed an item for a small percentage of complainers there wouldn't be anything on the site.  However, if this is that important to you, YOU had the power to do the same search BEFORE you bought the item.

As for shipping, you bought a product from the US site having it sent from the US delivered to Japan. The policy on the US site applies to US deliveries. It is again not the responsibility of Amazon to keep track of every shipping regulation of every Country for shipping and returning. There are many regulations regarding things such as batteries, fuel, and other dangerous articles. You are asking Amazon to override the Shipping Regulations of a Country...they are not going to do that.
