I'm a developer who was contacted by a client who (unfortunately) used AssociationComm for their website. The website they received from AssociationComm was hardly finished, and AssociationComm was not reply to any of their emails or calls. So there I step into the picture, to complete whats needed to be completed on the backend of the site!

I wasn't sure if the site was HOSTED by AssociationComm, or if AssoactionComm just set them up with a simple Joomla site and called it quits. Either way, the only way of finding out the clients FTP information would be going through AssociationComm. So I emailed them. No response.

I emailed them again, and called them. No one picked up on their technical or sales line. I called one more time today, and no one picked up. 

Finally, my clients last resort was to tell them they might have to file a claim with the Better Business Bureau if AssociationComm does not reply soon. Guess who suddenly came flying out of the woodwork? 

I received a call from Jeff from AssociationComm, and after playing phone tag for a few hours, I got ahold of him and politely asked for the FTP information. I wish I had recorded the conversation, but here's the short end of it, paraphrasing as accurately as I can:

"Why would you need to know that?"

'Well, I'm a developer and I plan on going in on the back end of the site and finishing it up'

"Well, you can't have the FTP information, they wont give it out"

'They? Who is they? I can't have the FTP information? Why not?'

"Just because. Now this phone call is going to end one of two ways. I'm going to hang up the phone now, or you can tell me what I can change for you, instead."

'I'm sorry, if my CLIENT calls, the one who paid, would you tell HER the FTP informaiton?'

"Not going to happen. Now if you just.."

'Thanks for your help, Jeff.'

 

After the threatening "one of two things is going to happen now, I'm going to hang up the phone now" comment, I knew this was a lost cause. That was their customer support. That's how friendly and useful they are. Now we are stuck with them, because theres no way to change hosting providers without any backend information.
