My husband cancelled his life insurance policy with Bankers Life, after they took a payment out on July 1, 2019 even though he told the agent, James Brown, that there would not be money in our account until the 3rd. Mr. Brown assured him that the premium would be taken out on that date.  Thankfully, TCF Bank reversed the overdraft fee because we hadn't had one for years. What caused him to cancel was when he found out the policy's maturity date would be in 2020 He is 58 years old. Also, I warned him after I read a lot of negative reviews of customers being denied on their Facebook page.

When he called and cancelled the policy (way before the 60 days allotted to do so) he was told that a refund would be sent to our account in 10 to 14 business days. He never got it.

Yesterday, he received a letter stating he had to pay a premium on or before July 27, 2019.

Don wanted me to check if the refund had been made. Not only was it not made, but I found out they had made an unauthorized withdrawal on July 8.

I have never had a company not refund me for purchases I've made and returned or for any other transactions until now.  I, certainly, have never had any company made unauthorized withdrawals from our account either.

In my opinion, this is not a trustworthy company. If they are going to take money that does not belong to them, how can anyone trust they will pay benefits for a person's needs when the time comes they need it? From what I read on Facebook and now here, they do everything they can not to pay those benefits. My husband signed up for a life insurance policy because he wanted me taken care of should he pass away before me.

Also, the clincher Mr. Brown pulled out at the last minute, to get my husband to sign up, was to, show us, on his smart phone, a catalog of items, such as, medical supplies, vitamins, etc, that we would get for free. I didn't get to see the web site address. He said we would receive said catalog with our policy. We never received any catalog nor was there any mention of one with the paperwork.

We want our money of $50.28 refunded to our account.

Today, my husband is going to put a stop on them taking money from our account. That's going to cost us more money that we, simply, don't have extra.  What's really sad is, some of what he set aside so we could celebrate our 30th. Anniversary this month is going to have to pay to keep these thieves from stealing from us again. And I'm, probably, not going to get to pick out my wedding set, which I've never had, from a pawn shop. He was going to put it on lay a way for me.

Bankers Life was supposed to help us, but it only ended up hurting us as we are on an extremely low fixed income. Mr. James Brown knew that and he played on this pretending he cared. His brand new shark skin suit and smooth, suave ways didn't fool me, but my husband was so set on me having an easy time of it when he goes, he made the incorrect decision that ended up costing us as I've read here so many times that they don't refund money. I'm praying, in our case, that this isn't true. We are calling Esme, who was with Mr. Brown. I have a feeling she will get our money back for us.

They sent us a check for the amount they took out of our checking account.  So we are happy with this.
