DO NOT put your family or relatives in this care home. The owner, Denise Jack, makes nearly $100,000 a month from the residents of her 2 care homes, yet only employs one caregiver for all the residents that she pays the minimum wage and relies on help from unpaid students who don't even speak good English and nor do most of the caregivers. I have a paralyzing neurological condition and I stayed there and had to call 911 multiple times for help, both from the police and ambulance because my health and safety were at risk. Denise is changeable and unreliable, her behaviour towards both me and the caregivers was abusive and controlling, and her husband Patrick is rude and ignorant. She advertises the home as one for dementia patients only because they are cheap and easy to look after because of their reduced mental capacity. She never does anything nice for them or takes them on any trips, just leaves them sitting in a dark room together fighting with each other. She charged me an extra $500 a month for my supposedly high care needs but I was lucky to get one shower a week. In addition, she wouldn't let me book the DATS bus under my own name and made me pretend that I was one of the other residents which was fraudulent. When I left I reported her to DATS for fraud. This home should be closed down.

Addition to Good & Bad

I think the reason Denise specializes in dementia is because the residents are cheap and easy to look after because they don't know who they are or where they are. Also she is a controlling person and constantly talks over you which is very frustrating and annoying, and her husband Patrick is rude and ignorant.

Good and bad

The honest truth is that there are positives and negatives about this place. Firstly the positives. Even though this is a home for dementia patients, the owner Denise Jack agreed to admit me for 3 months so that I had somewhere to stay while I waited for my AHS coverage to become active as I was moving from another province. I have a neurological condition that has put me in a wheelchair and moved to Edmonton from BC to attend a private company called ReYu for intensive neurological rehabilitation, and also see an ND that specializes in my illness and has it himself. Denise accommodated my pescatarian/vegetarian diet by cooking me special food every day and also bought me chocolate ice cream for dessert that was delicious! In addition, she added the TV channels I love to the ones that the other residents watch and also arranged for me to take the DATS bus to my appointments which saved me a lot of money. Because the homes are smaller, Denise offers a homely personalized service that sets her apart from the bigger facilities. On the negative side, she makes $100,000 a month from her 2 care homes but she only employs one caregiver for all the residents and relies on help from unpaid students who don't speak very good English, and nor do a lot of the caregivers. Also unlike the bigger facilities, she never arranges any trips for the residents, just leaves them sitting in a dark room downstairs watching TV all day and fighting with each other. It worked for me on a temporary basis as a means to an end, but I was glad to move on and personally I wouldn't want my family members or friends to live there on a long-term basis either.

Just want to retract this report because I have resolved matters with the owner, Denise Jack.
