Charter Cable is amazingly awful. I tried over a week to deal with Charter Communications regarding being double billed. They actually admitted to the error and then basically said, too bad.

I recently noticed on my rent bill that I was paying 40.00 for "income cable" I inquired at my office what it was for. I was told that Charter charges me for basic expanded service. That was odd since I knew for a fact that I was signed up for basic expanded service with Charter - and that was already too expensive. However, I went back to double check and called them immediately.

I explained to the operator that I was being charged 59.00 on my bill for basic expanded service when in fact I was already paying for it thru my rental office. This was going on for 18 months. He agreed and said that the rental company has a contract for the apartment complex and I shouldn't have been paying the 59.00 just based on my address. Ok, what will we do? let me transfer you to someone that can help you with the refund. sounds like progress right? No.

afterwards a supervisor told me that because I had optional services I had to be charged the basic service/expanded service at the 59.00 rate. Well, my question is WHY was I charged both??? (40.00 on my rent for basic/expanded and 59.99 on my bill for basic/expanded.) He talked around the issue and try to confuse me, but it was apparent that he was not going to resolve this matter. I waited a week and called again.

At this point I wanted to speak with manager and I was equipped with pen in hand to take names and ask for their resolve NOT to resolve in writing. I spoke with 3 "supervisors" (I kept asking for each one's supervisor) Finally, one appeared to try to help me - I said look, I've been given the run around - I get you don't want to refund me $1,062 but it's what I'm due - I can compromise, let's discuss upgrading my services for a length of time - he agreed. Sounds like another resolution, right? NO. He discussed giving me a silver/gold package for a period of one year, that sounded like a decent resolution to me, in the next 20 seconds he realized he couldn't do that. Get this - because i'm in a tenant contract (the same contract that says I wasn't supposed to be charged the 59.00 from the beginning.) It's preventing him from putting on the codes so I can receive the complimentary services. Wow. So too bad for me that I live here. His alternative, I can discount one of your HD boxes saving you $7 per month for a year. I said basically you're going to give me 84.00 for my $1,062. Yes.

This is a multi-million dollar company that in 2014 can't find a way to put codes on an account to right a wrong that was their fault - and basically blamed me the consumer - I said well, no I decline your offer, can I have your supervisor? I said I just want to speak with someone who does have the ability to compensate me for all that I paid out. There's no one else but corporate - Ok, I'm ready to write down the corporate #. But guess what? Corporate has no phone number that I can call. He has to forward my complaint and they will contact me.

This was their fault. I have no resolution and I will be looking for a way to file a class action suit because I'm sure I'm not the only one in this situation. They are really horrible. I am appalled at their ease at not finding a solution for this situation - it's like yeah, sorry you paid $1000 extra because you were paying your bill as it stated to, on time, basically in full each and every month for 18 months. We'll just fix/code it correctly going forward and thanks for all that extra cash. Are they serious???? This is certainly not the end. Please beware of this company.

Thank you Charter - Update against Charter

I am writing an update. Everything in my above report was true and it was horrible feeling like nothing could be done. However, Charter has attempted on their own to put things right and I am grateful. A couple of weeks after my Ripoff Report, I finally said let me pull up my bill - because it was even difficult to do that - knowing that I'd have to pay them to keep whatever cable I had - even though I had gone thru overpayment for 2 years. Anyway, when I finally pulled my bill up online, I was dumbfounded to find an 800+ CREDIT to my account. I looked again and yes, Charter had granted me a credit of 800+ dollars to my account. I was extremely happy. Somewhere in some office, someone had finally decided to do the right thing. Sure it was a little less, but hey, I'm happy. I felt it was just as responsible to let you all know the outcome to my situation. Thanks Charter
